Default M&P Pro Trigger, Improved or not?

I keep hearing conflicting reports and I just wanted to see if anyone has any definitive answer on this. Does the Pro series in fact have an improved trigger. I've everything from that it's the exact same to that it includes the Apex trigger parts. So, does anyone know for sure?

This is the internet...everyone is an expert and everyone posts absolute
truths...

The 5 inch Pro does not have Apex parts
The 5 inch Pro trigger is supposed to be improved
My 5 inch Pro trigger was improved when I installed Apex trigger,
trigger return spring, sear, sear spring, USB and RAM
Edit: I also polished the internals (sear, USB, trigger bar)

For what it's worth, the trigger in my shield 9mm is far better than the trigger that was in my Pro 9mm.

Yeah, I have heard that. Did you have the 5"Pro or the 4"?

Ok thanks. I had a 40c and I hated the trigger. I'm considering the 5" Pro for IDPA. I'm concerned that I'll get taken out of SSP if I changed the trigger though.

I actually picked up the 5 inch pro for competition as well. I got rid of it almost immediately after purchasing due to accuracy issues and picked up a glock 34.

I actually really liked the pro model, and would have kept it had the accuracy been consistent and acceptable. I got over the trigger feel pretty quickly, but YMMV.

Any way you can dry fire the exact pistol you're looking to get at your local shop?

I'm gonna see if I can. He has plenty of regular M&Ps but I'm not sure if he has a Pro in stock. I'd go with an XDM but we can't get them in NYS because they don't make 10 round mags for them.

My 5" Pro 40 was build in June 2014. When I bought it I tried dry firing side by side with a standard M&P. I think it was a "little" better, but not a heck of a lot. My Shield's trigger was definitely better. Apex kit fixed all that though.

They are supposed to have a 4.5 - 5.5 lb trigger if I recall correctly. I have heard of a lot of them being returned to the factory after it was discovered that the triggers were 7 lbs. plus. Here is a review of the Core Pro; the author returned it to get the trigger pull corrected:

GetRekt, what did you see as far as accuracy? I have a 4.25" Pro Core .40 and am not thrilled with the accuracy so far. Off bench I have only 1 ammo that shoots pretty tight. Others are larger than I would expect. Just put an Appex flat trigger kit on it. We will see.

See this was the problem I had with my M&Pc. The trigger was so bad, it was pulling me off of target when I fired. I'm sure I could have trained that out but the fact is that when I switched to the XDs, the issue disappeared so, why put up with it. IDK, I'm going to check one out but I may just wait to see what else comes along.

Without any official testing, having several Pros and only one "non-Pro", there is a big difference in the triggers. Big enough that I won't buy another non-Pro. It has taken a lot of trigger time, which is not entirely bad, to get my non-Pro to a comfortable level. These are defensive guns for me, even if I choose to do IDPA with them, so I refuse to mess with triggers.

I have 2 5" pro's both in 9mm. The triggers on both of mine one 2014 and one 2015 are better then all of my other m&ps. Also idpa rules for ssp class you can change internal parts. Apex kit is legal as long as you don't change the trigger it's self.

I would like to point out there are different versions of the Pro Series. There is the regular Pro Series and the CORE Pro Series. I have a CORE Pro Series that has the new improved sear. On mine, the trigger was pretty bad. It was really gritty. I purchased the Apex Tactical AEK trigger kit and the trigger is awesome now. I also have the new "Performance Center" M&P Ported CORE. The trigger on it out of the box is way better than my stock Pro Series CORE was. My Performance Center CORE trigger is as good or better than my Pro Series CORE with Apex parts. I think a lot of people get the regular Pro Series, the Pro Series CORE, the Performance Center Ported CORE (newest and best), and the regular Performance Center M&P models mixed up.

Understood, I was not looking at the CORE, just the regular 5" Pro, primarily for an IDPA gun. Can't use Red dots in IDPA so no real reason for me to get the CORE. As it turns out though, my dealer can't get me a NY Compliant Pro so while I could get one, it would be an extra 60 bucks for mags. Plus there is the trigger issue and if I can't use the Pro in SSP with with the APEX trigger then there is really no reason for me to get the Pro. So....I'm back to square one and I'm not really sure what to do at this point. My option right now is a Glock 34 or just stick with the 1911 9mm I have now (which is probably what I'm going to do).

I have the 9L pro series, and the 9L CORE pro series, and with a regular m&p 9 & had a G34. There is significant difference between between the standard m&p 9 trigger and both pro series guns. If it was not for the over travel adjustment on the CORE I would not be able to tell the two pro-series guns apart. The standard m&p 9 is on par with the G34 trigger. I pretty much only shoot the 9L CORE with a reflex sight now. the 9L pro series is just a back up and loner. Daughter shoots the standard m&p9

My Pro did not have an improved trigger and when I had the trigger pull measured it was almost 7 lbs. Customer Service told me to send it back and they would make it measure to the advertised specs, 4-5 1/2 lbs. However, I wanted faster results and I had received so many positive comments about the Apex FSS kit that I bought one and had it installed. In addition to reducing the trigger pull, it also reduced the travel in the trigger. Now the more I shoot my Pro the smoother it gets. Unlike GetRekt, I've never had trouble with accuracy and it is the one of the most accurate guns I've ever shot. Good luck with yours. Regards, Elliot45

My Pro had a 6.5 # pull when I purchased it, I did call S&W and the CS rep treat me like I was stupid and told me that that was the way should be until I showed him the specs on the website. Mine did go back but honestly still not even close to my other pro so I was very disappointment about my experience with S&W, I don't think I will be buying an other M&P.

My M&P Pro had a slightly better trigger than my M&P Compact. Once I dropped in the Apex M&P Competition Action Enhancement Kit, it got distinctly better.

My Compact and Shield came with 6.5lb triggers. I bought a 5" Pro two days ago and it also came with a 6.5lb trigger. Matter of fact, all three of them at the store had 6.5lb triggers. I had them install an Apex competition trigger sear and spring kit and it dropped to 4lbs. I took it home and used a toothpick to put a very small dab of aluminum anti-seize on the sear to striker contacts and the trigger bar to sear contact. This dropped the pull to 3lbs. It's not a target pistol, but will keep most shots with commercial reloads, in a three inch group at 25 yards, off a sandbag. Winchester white box shoots into a four inch group. Of course you have the occasional flyer, shooter or ammo related.

Default update on Pro Series triggers 2016

Sad to report, as of mid 2016, Pro Series 5" M&P9L
still coming with 7 pound triggers.

I have 2, FOS 5" Pro and CORE 5" Pro. Both 7# triggers.

I must have gotten lucky. I think the trigger on my FS 40 pro is pretty good. It is much better than most striker fired pistols I've shot, Or at least comparable. Of course I haven't shot them all but I've shot several. It's certainly not a competition trigger, but pretty good for what it is in a relatively cheap plastic gun. Granted it was gritty at first but that mostly worked Itself out. The break has always been crisp and clean. The pull is much lighter than my shield. And with the exception of the shield's better reset, I like it better because of its significantly lighter pull weight. Mine comes in less that 5lbs. I think he was made in 14 but would need to check that.

There have been examples of the Pro Series that are in spec
for the trigger pull. But they are in the minority.

Many more reports of 7.X lb pulls are multiple over several years.

My Novak sight 5" Pro is a June 2016 build and was 7.4 lbs.

I sent it back to S&W and it is now in spec, very smooth take up & a pull in the low 5 lb range.

The way it should have been out of the box.

What does the apex have that the s&w core doesn't have. Is it Polished? Different geometry or wht? Like I got the voqurtson(sp) hammer and sear for my 22/45 put I could have polished the stock parts and got just as good results if not better. I thought of putting the apex parts in but want to try polishing te stock parts first since I'm bored.

My Apex endowed Shield (with polishing) has a better trigger than the new Core 9mms I've tried. Personally I am convinced that getting the base pistol and adding the Apex (and polishing) is better in the long run......And I've done several.....
