Default Pocket holster for 9MM Shield

Hi Guys,

I'm about to purchase a 9mm shield and would like to know a good holster for pocket carry. I've done some looking around the internet for pocket holsters but there is nothing like talking to those who have been there done that.

There's 3 I'd recommend...
1. Galco Pocket Protector (PRO 286). Good quality leather, without the 'Bulk'.
2. Remora sticky type holster. They fit well and can be used IWB as well as in the Pocket.
3. DeSantis Pocket-Tuk. It comes with a removable clip, so it can be used as an IWB, as well as a Pocket Holster.

The Galco and Pocket-Tuk can be found for around $18-$25... So economical, as well as good construction. Remora almost always has a 30%-40% sale going on, so it's about the same price range.
Of these 3, the Galco is what I use the most.

The Nemesis is another good option.
Good luck in the hunt.

Agreed. I have the Galco and it works quite well. I also have a Sticky holster which I believe is very similar to the Ramora. It prints a bit less sometimes, depending on the pants, because the Galco has a pretty square front. I've got a Nemesis for my LCP that works, so I'm sure it would for the Shield as well.

The Galco is made with sort of a 'hook' below the trigger guard and is stiff enough that with only a little practice you can be assured of getting the pistol out and leaving the holster behind.

Second vote for a Remora. I use it IWB but it does fit in my pocket. But since I've never been a fan of pocket carry it don't use it that way.

Thank you all very much for your help. I know some of you don't like the pocket carry and I may find out the same thing. But right now the pocket carry seems like the easiest and most obvious place to carry.

Once I found out you can buy holsters for that specific reason and you don't "paint the pocket" I felt even better about it.

Thanks for your help,

H.J

In my experience the DeSantis Nemesis works the best for pocket carry. Remora is great for IWB but for pocket carry it's too sticky and does not hook in the pocket.

I've been very happy with my Kramer Leather pocket holster for my G33 (and the G26 before it). Had it well over a decade and still in fine shape.

Pocket carry: it has pros and cons, but can be priceless. Trying to draw while seated is a cluster, though. It's awful for that.

I prefer the DeSantis Nemesis.

I tried the DeSantis Super Fly which has alot of grip but found it irritated my thigh as I walked.

That Blackhawk #4 is a little pricy at $108 bucks. Although Id certainly pay that amount for the right holster. The Galco looks good to me as it looks easy to deal with. I also like the DeSantis Pocket-Tuk, as it doubles as a pocket/hip holster.

Doug makes a very good point that a pocket pistol is difficult to get out if your sitting down. Nothing is 100% is it?

Thanks again guys, great information...

Hey Nitmare2K, is it the Pocket-Tuc you use? It does look like a very straight forward design. If its a comfortable as it looks we its something to look at for sure.

I believe the Blackhawk #4 that was mentioned from Walmart is around $10. I picked one up for the Shield/Glock 43 out of curiosity and it does fit and work, although I have not tried actual carrying of either of them this way yet so cannot provide any feedback.

I have had a #3 Blackhawk (and previously a similar item in the Uncle Mikes line) for my J frames for some time and it is a well functioning pocket holster for a bargain price.

I am not sure if Mika makes a pocket holster for a Shield or not but others have spoken highly of his product on this forum.

I was watching a video the other day where a guy pulls up in front of an ATM, does his business and gets back in his car and closes the door.

Almost immediately two guys come up to the drivers window, one with a tire iron, who hits the window twice breaking the window. The guy in the car shoots at them through the broken window and they start running away.

Then the driver opens the door and shoots the guy with the tire iron a couple/three times and the guy falls to ground. The other one runs away.

My question is this... Where could he have had concealed his pistol and get it out that quickly?

If there is one place you can conceal carry and have access to it all the time sitting, standing and in a car with a seatbelt on I would sure like to know it.

Thanks guys,

H.J

I have seen holsters models marketed for those who spend a lot of time stationary in cars, like cops on stakeouts. Most appear to be some kind of cross draw. I think Mitch Rosen has one he calls something like the "Counter Carjacking Rig". If the shooter you saw (is right handed and) trains a lot, he could have been using OWB, IWB, or AIWB and been pretty fast. (The angle for a lefty is crummy.)
