Default Which Trijicon model for 9mm CORE?

I just ordered a ported 5" 9mm CORE M&P, and am trying to decide on which Trijicon site to purchase.

I do like the adjustable LED version, but am having a hard time deciding on what MOA dot to get.

The RM06 has a 3.25 MOA dot and the RM09 has a 1 MOA dot.

I'm really not sure which one to purchase. I haven't been able to actually see either unit in person, so I don't know how large the dot will appear in person.

The 1 MOA will certainly be better for longer shots, but I suppose close shot may be faster with the 3 MOA.

Any suggestions?

What are you going to be using the pistol for? I shoot USPSA Open and use either a 7.5 Deltapoint on my Core, or a 6MOA C More on my major gun. The bigger dot(triangle) is better for close quick shots. I have washout problems in bright sunlight so I would imagine the 3 or 1 would disappear in the same conditions. Remember, 1 MOA means 1 inch at 100 yards, not a normal distance for a pistol.

I have the small dot on my Deltapoint but agree with Bkreutz for SD type shooting the large dot is faster to get on target with. I shoot a lot of bullseye type targets and bench rest with mine so the smaller the better. If you can crank up the brightness that helps for fast close in stuff. i go the other way on my Ultradot and turn it dowh to min and select the smallest dot. Don

The gun will be used for CCW (I prefer full size guns and conceal them well), training classes and the occasional competition. Yeah, I'm a little concerned that it could be too small. However, when I look at my 2 MOA Aimpoint, it seems like it would be fine.

I am running an RM07 (6.5 MOA) on my CORE which is my home defense gun and it works perfectly. I am not really worried at shooting a target at 100 yards.

Going to have the slide on my 9C machined for and RMR and will be installing and RM07 on that as well.

Most pro shooters use a dot size that can run from 6moa to 12 moa depending of the event . If your going to use it for defense and the occasional match stay with a dot size that fits the both needs . 6 to 9 moa . Our core pistol, has a 9moa GREEN dot from Trijicon RM05g. That size only covers 2.25" at 25 yards and always on day or night , no battery needed .

I just went through this exact same scenario last year. I ended up choosing the RM06. It's the 3.25MOA Adjustable brightness model. I think this size is great because when you lessen the brightness, the dot actually shrinks, when you increase brightness, the dot grows. So in my opinion you have the best of both worlds. You have a small dot for precision shots, but it's NOT too small that your fighting to see it. Add a few clicks of brightness and you have a larger dot for faster target acquisition up close. Also, when you turn on the RMR, there is a light sensor that automatically determines what it thinks the dot's brightness should be. This is usually pretty close for me but I like going 1 or 2 clicks lower for a finer dot. On the non adjustable models you don't get that. I do think 1 MOA would be way too small for a pistol and is intended to be used on an AR or some sort of rifle.

I have a Trijicon RM08G currently wafting its way toward me in the mail. It has a 12.9MOA green triangle.

Ultimately, I will use it for defense as well. The dual illumination feature means no batteries. I wanted the lowest maintenance option available. Even so, the battery in the LED version lasts a stupid long time. Of course Murphy tells us it will die at the worst possible time.

This isn't exactly correct. The dot blooms rather than grows. Blooming is caused by the brightness over powering the ambient light and contrast. Nevertheless, the end result is the same. Blooming causes the edges of the dot to blur and flare. reducing the brightness will help define the edge of the dot. In essence, reducing the brightness makes the edge clear and that makes the dot appear as small as it can.

Small dots are better for rifles. Because you have three points of contact, shoulder, support hand and cheek, it's easier to pick up a small dot on a rifle. Plus, rifles are for longer shots. Smaller is indeed better at longer distance.

However, speed is more necessary at close range, especially self-defense distance. A larger dot is easier to pick up quickly. This means the shot can be taken quicker with a larger dot.

There is a benefit to the triangle that isn't immediately apparent. The point of the triangle can be used for precision while the large body makes it easy to pick up. Only time will tell if the 12.9MOA triangle is too large for me.

I will report back when I'm able to do a full evaluation.

I have a Vortex scope and set of binoculars. They are fantastic. However, their red dots have proven to be quite poor for me.

I'm very interested in your review of the Viper red dot. I hope it's good one.

I just ordered the RM06 3.25moa dot.
Im having second thoughts that I won't be able to see the dot in
bright daylight. I do wan't to take precision shot out at longer ranges though so the smaller dot is better.

I just got mine and mounted it yesterday.

The dot (triangle) is easy to read in any light. It's challenging to get a picture of though. Because the dot is simulating being on the target at distance, close focus reveals nothing:

However, focus out to infinity and it shows up:

This is one reason I went this way. I need reading glasses, but with this optic I can use my distance vision.

This particular version uses ambient light to illuminate the dot. It has a tritium light source for low light conditions. It's perfectly visible in bright daylight or the darkest room. There is a drawback though. If you're standing in shadow, and the target is bright, the dot might be too dim to see clearly.

I will test this tomorrow when I get to the range.

Got it out to the range today and fired 130 rounds with the new sight:

At first it was challenging to acquire the sight. Within a few magazines it was relatively easy.

I was shooting at 7 yards. When I did my part it was shooting to POA. I ramped it up with the timer and shooting controlled pairs. It was a little slow at first, but I was able to get the times down to what I normally shoot. The slowest time was 1.87sec and the fastest was .89sec starting from the ready. I didn't have a holster with me so I was starting from the ready. Most of the pairs were between 1.4 and 1.5 seconds.

It didn't add any appreciable weight to the gun, didn't upset the balance and didn't seem to add or subtract from the recoil. It will fit in the holster now, but I suspect it won't if I were to have the slide milled because it would be more forward.

I have to do a lot more shooting before I'm done deciding if this is really an advantage for me. As of now, I like it.
