The Loading From Hell...
Hi guys,
Picked up my 9mm shield last week and will be going to the range in the morning to shoot it for the first time.
To save time I decided to load both magazines tonight. As you know there are 2 magazines, one holds 7 the other 8. Well forget that, I couldn't get more than 6 rounds in each one.
And when I say 6 rounds I mean 6 hard fought rounds and I'm not a little guy with dishpan hands. This cannot be normal can it?
Admittedly its been awhile since I've loaded a magazine but this is just so far over the top I can't even see the top. I'm sure glad I at least partially loaded the mags tonight.
This can't be normal, how are you suppose to shoot if your fingers are all mangled?
Harry

If you think that's tough, buy a Kimber Solo 8-round magazine
and see what tough really feels like.

MagLula UpLula to the rescue. Great tool, never leave home for the range without it.My Sig 1911 mags are a chore to load, that makes em pretty easy.

I would say it is normal. My Shield experience was the same as yours. I used the Uplula to load all of the mags, set them on the top shelf of the safe for a week. It helped a lot, but it is still stiff enough to give me confidence that it will push that last round up with authority.

I bought a new Shield back in January and had no problems loading the mags at all. My wife also bought a Shield in March and I could fully load both of hers without issue. I was beginning to think this forum was full of pansies after reading all threads here about Shield mags being hard to load. Then, about 6 weeks ago I ordered two more of the 8 round mags and these were impossible to load! Luckily my wife had already purchased the Uplula or there's no way I could get all 8 rounds in. I've left both new mags fully loaded and now I can load them by hand.

I've owned quite a few new guns that came with that impossible to load mags reputation. The sheild being one of them. And I have never had a problem with any of them, and have never used a mag loaded to load any magazine I have ever owned.

Loaded the mags last night and went to the range for the first time this morning. Fired both mags and reloaded at the range and they were much easier to load...
My 9mm Shield has the Crimson Light green laser and I'd not used a laser before. One thing a laser points out very quickly is how much you move the gun on target. Great leaning tool and was happy to find I can still shoot!

I am a relatively new shield user, 72 years old, and had the same trouble. I was holding the magazine in one hand and trying to load with the other. However, if I placed the magazine on a hard surface instead of holding it in the air, the loading became much easier.

The Uplula is about the price of a box of shells. Just break down and do yourself a favor. Seriously. Every Shield owner needs one, and any semi-auto owner could use one.

I'm old, my fingers don't work as well as they used to . . . I followed the advice here and ordered the Uplula . . and am GREATLY looking forward to getting it! Until then, I'm using the mag loading device that came with my Ruger SR9. Yea . . it's for a double stack but I carefully center it and it works in a pinch until my Uplula gets here.

I own two mag loaders -- a "coffee table" and a "kitchen counter". Set the mag base on any flat surface, load the rounds.

We have a Shield 9mm and I had a very hard time loading the mags, especially the 7 rounder. Now have an uplula and am a happy camper.
