Default One of these Shields is not like the other

So I have a Shield 40 and am tempted to add a 9 to my collection. No reason other than want one really. I went to the LGS and handled the new Shield 9 they had and have to say that it felt totally different than my son's Shield 9 and my 40. The slide cycled super easy for one thing. So much so that I thought it must have bound up halfway through the travel when it stopped. It was actually locked back but I didn't think I had used enough muscle to get it there. Literally day and night. The other major difference was the trigger. A lot more takeup and then a nice break. My son's is supposed to be Mass compliant but has a lighter trigger pull than my non-Mass compliant 40. His had a crisper break than mine. They are both better now after shooting them a while.

I am wondering if folks with access to multiple Shields find as much difference in them as I do. While I understand that mass produced products from different lots, years, etc can be different I also don't think they should feel like a totally different gun. Our Shields were bought in December of last year and had fairly recent build dates (don't remember exactly) so I wouldn't think there would be that much difference.

I really loved that 9 with the easier slide and better (to me) trigger though! Not tooling on S&W or Shields. Love them both, just curious if anyone else has experienced this.

I don't have a Shield but have an M&P that has a great factory trigger. i have shot several other M&P's that have no where near as nice of a trigger as the one I bought. Didn't pick and choose just went into LGS and said I want an M&P 9mm full size and it's the one they brought out. My Uncle was interested in Kahr's for a minute and i went with him to the store to look at them. Every single one (of the model he was looking at) had a different feeling trigger to both of us.

That's what I find so weird. If I bought 4 new Lincolns or 4 new cameras or 5 new blenders I would expect them all to be functionally the same. While all those Shields will shoot fine, the feel of cycling the slide and the trigger could all be totally different from one to another. Makes me wonder about all the folks (or their spouses) who couldn't handle how difficult the slide is to work. I bet if they tried out a few different Shields they would find one that worked for them.

Maybe gun manufacturers figure most owners won't have multiples of the same gun and wouldn't notice or care about differences like that.

I would expect different weights of recoil springs between the 9 and 40. If so, that would explain why the slide is easier to retract. 1911s have different recoil springs in 9mm, 45 ACP, 38 Super and 10mm.

I got the $$ save up for a new shield, but keep hearing that they are still improving them & think I should wait a little longer till all the bugs are worked out. & then there's the rumors of a "gen 2" model...decisions decisions

I would also expect the 9 and 40 to behave differently but that 9 that I handled at the LGS was a ton easier to cycle than my son's 9. In fact, my 40 and his 9 feel almost identical when it comes to the slide.

I think if you go to a gun shop that has multiple Shields, handle them all. Cycle the slides, dry fire and then see if they or you can field strip to check out the RSA. Other posts on this forum will let you know what to look for. As far as Gen 2, one can only hope that they don't change things too much. Just a better RSA would be on my list.

Common with items and with your example of cameras VERY common to get variation. Lots of photographers will buy multiple copies of the same camera lens and find the better one out of the group.
