Backstraps vs. Accuracy
Forgive me if this has been covered before. I did a search and not much came up.
I own plenty of pistols and revolvers but the M&P is the first I've owned with changeable backstraps.
Have you noticed a big difference in your accuracy from one backstrap to another?

Absolutely. What feels comfortable is actually sometimes not the same as what you shoot best with. Only way to really tell is to shoot with a timer.
Small grips were comfortable for me just to hold, but my best accuracy and speed was with mediums.

That never occurred to me. I tried all three but never actually shot with any but the small. Sounds like a good excuse to hit the range.

Now that I have 3 identical M&P45's, I've put different backstraps on each, draw from a holster, and see where they naturally point.
It was surprisingly unsurprisingly consistent that small had me pointing right and large had me pointing left, no doubt due to how much it fills the hand.

I hadn't thought about it before but I suspect that the speed factor would be the key. I like my M&Ps better than Glocks largely because M&Ps point better for me. Sadly, I don't have an easy way of testing speed from blackstrap changes, but I can see how it could matter.

Absolutely. I have an M&P 40c. It's a small gun firing a big round, resulting in a pretty good kick. Although the medium backstrap initially felt best to me, the gun rocked back noticeably when I fired it. In contrast, the rocking back motion was considerably less when I used the large backstrap. Less rocking = more accuracy, so I've used the large one ever since.

Remembering that the objective is to achieve a straight rearward trigger press, the different backstraps can put a different part of your trigger finger on the trigger, which may effect that straight rearward press.
Hundreds of threads talk about using a different part of one's trigger finger to keep one from twisting the pistol left (or right) at the trigger break. The different backstraps can assist in getting the proper trigger finger placement to achieve that perfect press.

On both my full size and compact i have the most comfort and consistency at the range using the med grips. That comfort includes having the right feel (for me) on the trigger as well.
But i will add I'm not yet at the point of carrying or practicing from a holster so when i do i will see what works best drawing but also keeping my accuracy on the MP i'd end up carrying.

This was the very point I was going to bring up; helping with the proper trigger press and comfort in the hand.

Also, using a laser
while dry-firing at a fixed point will give you a very graphic picture of your trigger pull and grip vis-a-vis different backstraps.
The Shield doesn't have this option, but adding Talon grips (or other aftermarket grip) may give the shootist more control, better trigger finger to trigger match, and better control of recoil. Talon's certainly added much to my ability to shoot accurately.

Thank you everyone. Guess I have some experimentation to do.

Haven't tested my M&P yet but did so with my XDS.
Small backstrap felt great, but large shot much better. Large forced my hand higher on the grip and not only shot better but recoil is handled better.
