Default .357 SIG/.40 S&W Accuracy

I have heard a number of complaints about the accuracy of the S&W barrels on the M&P .375 SIG and .40 S&Ws. I too was having a problem with it until I slowed the speed of my reloads. I found that if you dumb the load down they become amazing more accurate. If you load your own, give it a try.

Not going to "dumb the load down " to gain accuracy in a defense handgun . That defeats the propose of the 357sig so might as well carry a 9mm or 380 ?? The typical 40 load is all ready a dumb down load by many ammo companies . I do load plinker ammo and mildly hot practice ammo . My grandson enjoys the plinker load but hot or slow I never found the m&p to be one of the more accurate handguns . I wanted a double stack but ended up giving my 40sw m&p to a daughter for a house gun after buying a different make 40 for carry and the ammo I prefer for defense needs is at the high end of performance - Underwood ammo .

I've always been able to achieve nice groups with my 40. It doesn't matter reloads or factory for me. No complaints here.

You don't mention anything about the accuracy of your guns or the group sizes you got with standard factory or reloads from either caliber. A little more specific info. would be nice.

All of my M&P's shoot fine and group as well as I can shoot them. Some days are better than others, and since I've never had an issue with any of them at the range; it's hard for me to blame the gun. I can't seem to find any brand of standard factory ammo that doesn't shoot well in any of my guns, and my reloads usually at least as well, sometimes even better!

I've owned/competed with some very nice target/competition guns; the Standard M&P is not one of those. You shouldn't expect target grade accuracy from a service grade weapon. I don't shoot past 15 yards, my eyesight just doesn't allow me to shoot like I could 25-30 years ago-getting old really-well, you know. But at 5, 7, & 10 yards I'm a 2"-2 1/2" shooter all day; at 15 yards 3"-3 1/2". If your guns don't/can't shoot at least that well, then shoot them until they do LOL

Shhh... please don't tell my full sized .40 that it is not supposed to be accurate.

3" - 3-1/2" groups at 15 yards is plenty accurate enough for a service pistol.

I had an M&P in .357 Sig and it was hands down the most inaccurate handgun I have ever owned! Sent it back to S&W. Told me there was nothing wrong with it. Sold it. Would not hit paper at 25 yards from a rest!

I have shot my M&P 40 in IDPA and have found it to be quite accurate. When I swap out the barrel for the OEM 357 SIG barrel it shoots even more accurately and the 357 SIG is with factory ammo. I load my own 40 S&W and I have found mine to be very accurate from the light plinking loads to the hottest defense/carry ammo I can find.

Define problem accuracy
And amazing more accurate

I can hit 8" steel at 100 yards 3/5 shots with my full size M&P. Can group head and chest shots out to 15 yards accurately enough for deadly effect. All types of ammo. Good enough for my self defense/carry gun.

They need to have a disclaimer with these M&Ps "This is not a Bullseye Gun. You may use it for that but don't send it in for us to fix if you don't win." Don

A target pistol it is not. However the barrel on mine (looking at it through a bore scope) has ill formed rifling. Sent it in to factory and they returned with no comment. At 7 yards 5" groups. At 25 yards with factory match .40 ammo it won't keep all shots on paper. Got for self defense. Really don't like to wait until the issue is only 7 yards from me to open up without fear of hitting property or people NOT being aimed at. Going to get a replacement barrel, if that doesn't work it is down the road.
