Default How do you like Smith & Wesson M&P 45C

I am looking at a S&W M&P 45C 4” barrel. If you have one how do you like it? What is a fair price for one made in 2010 with case and all it came with, shot very little maybe 300 rounds?
Thanks in advance for any help.

I carried a Colt Officers ACP for 20 years until my back went out. I switched to an M&P 45c and couldn't be happier. It weighs half of the Colt and I swear that it has less recoil.

I'm not sure if your comments pertain to the pic, but the gun in the pic isn't an M&P 45c.

I liked my M&P40C so well that I decided to get a 45C. Of course it's a bit larger than the 40C, but it still makes a great carry gun. It's roughly the size of a 1911 commander. It's a good shooter, but the trigger is heavier than the 40C. Overall, I like it.

Like it a lot. Has a striker indicator on back of slide that lets you feel with thumb if its been cocked while still in holster, once drawn you can see by the chamber indicator sticking up between sights that is has a round in chamber, grip safety for 1911 fans, also satisfies those that believe you have to have a manual safety added but those that fear they will forget to disengage it under stress dont have to worry. Sights are good, grip is good,no jams yet, very accurate. Recoil feels about like my 40's. And mechtech systems now makes a carbine conversion for xd's. Should be about $450 if you look hard.

I've used several full-size M&P45 pistols over the years. Summer of '13, they shipped the M&P45C by mistake. I went ahead and did an evaluation.

Great pistol. Accurate, uses the 10 round magazines without trouble, soft shooting.

I like it. Hate to send it back. Can't help on current price though.

I think the 45c is a fantastic handgun. I've had mine for several years now. No issues and on a good day I can shoot 3-4" groups at 25 yards. Recoil isn't bad at all. I installed a Apex FFS trigger group. I kept the trigger weight about the same as factory by using a different spring. I'd say if you can pick up the 45c for $400 that would be good.

My only disapointment with the 45c is that Crimson Trace doesn't make a laser grip for it like they do for the rest of the M&P line. I've been asking for it since I bought the pistol.

This is my favorite! I own several M&P's, but this is the best .45 I have ever owned or shot. I highly recommend it. And I know some of you may protest, but I have put 2500 rounds of all types of ammo through it and have cleaned it once. Still to this day, I have never had a jam, stove pipe or misfire.

Next to my Hi-Power, one the best Smith and Wesson's EVER.

I have one. I prefer my M&P40 and M&P40C for capacity and for triggers, though I am very much a fan of .45auto.

The trigger on my 45C was significantly heavier than my other M&Ps. I changed that by doing a fluff & buff and installing the Apex Hard Sear
and Apex Ultimate Striker Block. This made a dramatic improvement in the trigger pull and now I like it quite a bit. The M&P45C is a great .45auto carry gun!

As close as I can come to the C is my standard M&P 45 which is one of the best pistols I have fired. In both of my M&P pistols I have put in the APEX hard sear which made a very nice improvement in the triggers. I suggest you will like the pistol very much.

I wish they made the 9mm in the same size as the .45c. But I really like my full sized .45 so far and I think the C is like the perfect size for a gun that can do CCW and HD.

Looks like they are selling new for around $465. I would think $350-$365 would be a fair price for a lightly used one.

Outstanding firearm. No ammo sensitivity. Removing the external safety was easy. Trust it completely!

I loved mine. Recently purchased a Kimber and traded the 45c for a 9mm full size. Didn't really need two 45's with similar capacity. I will definitely be buying a 45 full size as soon as my local shop runs a sale.

Knowing what I know... don't hesitate to purchase one. I would say 4-500 is a fair price. I own both the FS and compact, one of the best 45's you will ever shoot. Are you looking for it to carry, range or both? Either way, it is one of the finest on the market in it's class. I enjoy shooting mine at the range and have no issue carrying it concealed when the situation allows. Accuracy is amazing, it makes me a better shooter, but still is more accurate than I am. I remember handing mine to a fairly new shooter that hadn't shot a 45 before and she shot the bullseye out of my target....

Default Compare 45c to 40c

I am leaning toward getting a M&P45c. I have several 9mms (S&W Shield, M&P 9c, Kel-Tech Springfield, Beretta, Sig), one H&K in 40S&W and two 45s (a "Clark" Colt 1911 and a Sig 220). Oh, an a Glock 42 for carry while on my motorcycle and other rare occasions where even a 9mm is too large and heavy. As you can see, I am a collector....

The S&W M&P 40c or 45c would be used 25% of the time for EDC, rotating with my Shield and M&P9c. I do plan on using it for range time also; the cost difference between 45/40 ammo isn't significant. I like the idea of keeping the operation of my EDC pistols consistent, so don't carry SA or DA/SA pistols anymore. I do not carry my H&K - it's full sized; my "duty" handgun before I retired 10 years ago.

Any, I am asking recommendations of the M&P 45c compared to the M&P40c. Like I say I am leaning toward the 45, as I am not a big fan of the 40S&W cartridge, although I know it's an excellent compromise between 9mm and the 45, etc, etc.

My ONE concern is the trigger....personally I am happy with the trigger on my Shield and my M&P9c....both were purchased in the last 9 months or so. But I hear horrible stories of how bad the trigger is on the 45c, and it sounds like that on the 40c might be better.....more like the 9c and Shield. So, anyone have those models and can give me their input on the triggers? I really don't want to pay another $100 for an Apex trigger....just not worth it to me.

Thanks!

My back is shot and still carry either 4506 or 4006. I have tried both the 40 & 45 hate the stock trigger picking up a lightly used tomorrow for $425 in 9mm until my Glock 30s comes in. I don't care for polymer other than the SW or P99.

Unfortunately the person I'm working for love's plastic pistols & the cash clears. The going rate locally is between $5-700 depending on caliber & night sights or not.
Just an FYI the softest best shooting polymer I have fired is XD followed by the Fnp in. 40caliber 4"barrel. I just finished a job requiring. 357 Sig caliber. Go with 226-229.

If you are planning on this as an off duty/back-up get the apex trigger, unless you have 0% of use otherwise my life is worth $75 check sale flyers.

I have the M&P40, M&P40C, and the M&P45C.

Of the three, I like the 45C the least, though it is a good gun and I do like it. (I prefer the Glock 30 when it comes to smallish, polymer forty-fives. The G30 is really an exceptional pistol!)

The M&P40 C with 10+1 rounds of forty makes for an awesome carry gun. Very compact size, light weight, excellent defense caliber, good capacity, soft shooting, accurate, reliable.

I've had this one for 8 years. It has a great trigger, great accuracy, great reliability... awesome carry gun.

As I mentioned above, my 45C had a terrible trigger until I replaced the sear and firing pin block. It is an excellent gun, but for carry, I still lean toward the 40C and, sometimes, its bigger brother, the M&P40 holding 16 rounds! These guns shoot forty very softly and comfortably and have good capacity! They are much more enjoyable to shoot than Glock forties are.

Man, there are some truly EXCEPTIONAL photos posted on this forum!

You are one of the first who didn't like the 45c at least as much as the 40c, but I think its because you are a 40 S&W fan (aren't you?) and not interested in occasionally carrying the 45c. I don't plan to carry the 45c much, as I am a believer in the 9mm as an (nearly always) EDC loaded with the proper ammunition. However, I am a collector as much as a shooter, I am embarrassed to say! The 45c, or the 40c for that matter, would be used probably 75% at the range, and only rarely carried in place of my current 9mms (Shield, M&P9c). I do rarely carry a Glock 42, but that's for those occasions when even a Shield is too large.....like riding my motorcycle.

papersniper... I am equally a fan of 9, 40, and 45. The only things I might have against any of these calibers would be not-so-great choices of what firearm they are fired from!

I think 40 is an awesome caliber, because I love the greater potency than nine and the greater capacity than forty-five. It is a great blend between the two and a vey enjoyable caliber to shoot, as long as one chooses a comfortable pistol to shoot the caliber with.

I have never enjoyed the feel of shooting .40 from a Glock; to me Glocks don't handle the caliber comfortably. But I love 9 and 45 with Glocks!

On the other hand, the M&P40 and M&P40C, for some reason, make shooting forty very comfortable and enjoyable. The BHP does a nice job with forty also. And the most luxurious and comfortable shooting forty I have experienced is the STI Edge, which makes shooting forty feel like 9mm target loads. Simply awesome! Very high capacity, great reliability, and superb soft-shoot ability with .40S&W in the STI Edge.

As much as I do like my M&P45C, for some reasons, I guess I prefer my G30, G21SF, and 1911s more for when I want to launch forty-five ammo. And, I like the G21SF more for home and RV defense pistol choice. The G30 and G21SF are fantastic pistols, both with equal and higher capacities than the M&P45C.

All that said, I am perfectly content with the M&P45C for carry duty. It is a good pistol, chambered in a great caliber.

I can, and do, carry pistols in all three defense calibers. Somehow, however, over the last year, I have naturally and unintentionally gravitated toward carrying the M&P40 and M&P40C, simply because they are easy to shoot well, reliable, accurate, comfortable to carry, and offer a relatively high capacity... in a potent defense caliber. What is NOT to love about that combination???

To me 40S&W is the Goldilocks caliber: not big, not small, just right! ;-) And easy to find during an ammo shortage.

Lately as my research continues I have stumbled upon the Sig Sauer P320 Carry model.....considering both their 40 and 45 variants. They are getting great reviews on their triggers, and they are nice looking guns. I own a Sig 220 and 228, and enjoy shooting them, but I'd prefer not to carry a DA/SA, so the striker fire of the P320 sounds good....and the operation, at least for shooting, compares well with the M&P series (and Glock). I probably would not go with the M&P40c just because I already own a M&P9c, and I'm looking for something different I suppose. I just keep getting hung up on the reported trigger issues with the M&P45c......hate to have to spend another $100 to get a decent trigger in it, at which point the P320 in either 40 or 45 would be about the same price.

I'll never sit there and lovingly polish it like one of my 1911's but my M&P 45C and 45FS are two of my all time favorite shooting tools. I'm always amazed at how well they point and handle recoil.

I looked at the M&P 45c but decided to go with the M&P 45M. Same 4" barrel but with the F/S grip. Don't carry it concealed so the F/S grip isn't an issue. When I carry concealed I carry a M&P 40c.

At first I never carried mine. It shot great but hated the thumb safety. But was able to get S&W to send me the frame plugs and took it out and now I carry it a lot! It is a great gun and I have not had any issues. I think I got mine for 480 back a few years ago. I would pay that again if I had to get another.

Well, get out the credit card. Sportsmans has the "LE" model for about $450 and there is a $50 S&W rebate until Dec 2015. Didn't notice if you're retired military or LEO. I believe the non-LE model is around $520.

You're welcome!

If I had to own one M&P 45, it would be 45C. Accepts both 10 round mags w/ X-grip adapter and full size slide. I.e. a 45C can easily be transformed to the midsize or FS.

That's like debating between a Dodge Neon and a Dodge Ram 2500 truck... 2 completely different models. One hits the guard rail and stops, the other drives through it and looks for another ...

Owning a few Sigs in various models, I checked out the Sig 320 to see what all the hoopla was about. Decent quality, not overly impressed enough to want to own one. Stock trigger is no where as good as any of my M&P 45s with Apex kits and I'm not sure how conducive the 320 trigger assembly is to break down and clean up. Then again, the trigger on the 320 I sampled broke way too far forward for my taste. Even the stock M&Ps seem to have this issue solved.

Last I looked, Apex kits were less than $100 and can often be had for a lot less.

I know, but I'm more concerned with Size. I already own the M&P45 4". Which is ok to conceal especially now in Fall and approaching winter. I do like a 45 caliber, but if the Shield 9 is Way way smaller than the 45C i may suck it up and use a 9.

Yeah, but there's the hassle of messing with adding a trigger, etc. I can understand the poster's reluctance to do that. I feel the same way. But having said that, I need to remember to compare the TOTAL cost to the TOTAL value that particular pistol gives me. For instance, the P320 interests me a lot, but then it is a big larger than the 45c....and that might be more (or less) important to some of us.

For now I think I might put the 45acp pistol acquisition on hold. I need to better define just what I want......I know what I need (nothing added to the gun safe!).

It's my personal favorite in the entire line. Perfect size for a ccw imo. Reliable right out of the box, accurate, soft shooter too.
