Default MagGuts capacity increase to Shield mags

I feel like the guy who just warned everyone about not being able to shoot his Shield with his eyes closed because he couldn't see the target........
I bought three MagGuts magazine spring/follower assemblies for my Shield 9 magazines, increasing my 8-round magazines' capacity to 9 rounds.
During my first range outing to check fit and function and after break-in of the mag assemblies, I noted I could load 10 rounds into an OEM 8-round Shield magazine as a consequence of the staggered configuration of the magazine.
Has anyone had any function/firing issues after adding two additional rounds with the MagGuts spring/follower assemblies?
Sorry if this sounds like another one of those 'Duh!' posts.

One other person mentioned this a while back, in the thread titled: Potentially dangerous Shield Idiosyncrasy

The only problem it caused, was his ability to remember if the mag held 8, 9 or 10 rounds and knowing when his Shield was empty.

Yes, I had feed issues when squeezing the extra (extra, extra?) round in there. The folks at Mag Guts recommended that I use the stock, plastic baseplate on the eight rounder and that keeps the extra round from being loaded. It was easy to do when using a loader, but it almost always resulted in a double feed. I put the stock base plates on my 8 rounders and the metal Mag Guts plates on the 7s and have fired 1000+ rounds with no issues.

Default Extra-capacity MagGuts magazine springs

I'd also written to MagGuts.com about this and got the same reply: use the OEM plastic base plate on the 8-round magazines and only load one extra round in the magazine.
That gives me the same capacity as in my Ruger LC9 with Galloway conversion, but with a slightly-larger frame size.
Makes me wonder if I wouldn't be better off trading the Shield for an M&P 9C for the larger round capacity in a smaller weapon than my P-35s?
Any comments from the audience?

I've got a Shield 9mm and a 40c (the 9c and 40c are exactly the same size). Both are great carry guns, are equally comfortable, and also work well at the range however the Shield is definitely more concealable in certain situations than the 40c for me. The Shield is easily concealed under just a t shirt but the compact needs at least an untucked button up shirt. That being said I have a buddy that carries a full size Glock under a t shirt and you'd never know it's there. All depends on the individual.

If round capacity is that important and trumps size (width), why even look at Single-Stack subcompacts?

My main (only) reason for getting the Shield was for Front Pocket carry (yup... I can easily Front Pocket carry a PF-9, LC9, Shield, etc in 'Relaxed Fit' jeans/pants).

I've had the MagGuts conversions on all my mags since last March, without any malfunctions.

If Belt carrying (IWB or OWB), I go with either my XDMc or G19, for the extra rounds (I don't like how the M&Pc feels to shoot).

I have been debating with myself whether to order a Mag Guts kit just to see for myself how it works for me.
I'd like to try just one simply to satisfy my own curiosity, and everything I have read has been positive. Then I think at around $23 bucks a pop to add one round per mag I don't think for me personally that the juice is worth the squeeze.

I hearken back to the days of single stack autos like the Mod.39-2 I carried on duty for several years, with the only real high cap being the P-35.
Then I remember that one of the original advantages of the auto over the revolver was not just capacity but the ability to conduct a faster reload. If I need more rounds on tap I"ll more than likely go with my old G26 or G19.
Our two Shields are great and I just don't care much about screwing around with 'em. Just me.
