Took delivery this week of an all-steel, old school Star 30MI and got my Shield back from the smith with the Apex trigger system installed and night sights fitted.
Talk about night and day, but each was great in its own way....
The Star could double as an anchor for something about the size of the QEII; there's enough extra steel on it to build a mid-sized SUV; and it seems to hold a half box of bullets.
The Shield...well, we all know the Shield, and with the new trigger touching off at 4 1/2 pounds it was a dream to shoot.
(Fellow in the bay next to me was shooting some sort of Ruger .22 with a silencer and laser and let me try...interesting. I gave him a turn with the Shield and he was all smiles and was amazed at how little recoil there was and how controllable. I may have made a convert.)
The Star trigger is pretty amazing at 3 1/2 pounds in SA and with a little white nail polish I had a nice 3 dot sight system. The recoil was, to say the least, absorbed.
My only problem was I only brought three boxes of ammo. I coulda kept shooting half the day.
I'm finding it fun to shoot two really different guns...like my SW990L and Beretta 1951; and my HiPower and Walther P1. Only drawback is bouncing between really different triggers and grips and it takes a mag or two to get the feel of the new piece. I know I should be spending more of my time practicing with my carry guns (Shield and S&W 60)....but it's just too much fun doing the other thing.
