After owning a few glocks and sigs, I decided to take the plunge with the M&P line today. I was in the market for a new CCW, and I took home a brand new in box M&P9c.

I got it home and field stripped it for its initial cleaning/lube. I did notice that it looks like there was some wear on the tabs on the frame? It's super smooth, however it just looks like wear. Is that normal for the M&P? There also looked like there was a line running down the edge of slide.

Last but not least, I did field strip it a few a few time the way the manual instructed me to. I did notice that sometimes, the take down lever would shoot right back up to the normal position when I was moving the slide back on the frame OR it would start moving up the point I had to hold the lever down while I was putting the slide back on?

Thanks for the help, and I plan on shooting the snot out of her this weekend!

I don't remember when mine was new about the "wear" on the slide guides. I can say that the take down lever does fly up during slide removal. I always hold it down with my thumb when removing the slide.

Does it fire and feed reliably? If it does, move on. You'll get way more blemishes and wear marks when you shoot it and carry it.

Yes, everything you noticed is perfectly normal. Take a look at my M&P 40 in this thread: M&P Parts Identification

Notice the wear on the slide and tabs. This is where an M&P will show wear. It will progress to a point, but not get much worse.
