Looking for a southpaw OWB pancake holster, preferably in black, for an M&P9 FS.

If you have one, could you post a photo and/or tell me where you got it?

Okay, I shoot right handed and it's cordovan rather than black, but I love the Lobo Gun Leather enhanced pancake holster my Shield rides in.

None of the quality holster makers are able to keep holsters in stock. The best holsters always take a couple months to get.

Ryan Grizzle, R Grizzle Leather - Home will put a rush on a holster for a $40 fee and get it done in two weeks.


Now, a decent holster can be had in an Aker 168A: http://akerleather.com/index.php/off...ider-xr13.html This one might be in stock, but it's not as nice as a true custom.

If you just have to have a holster fast, then get a Fobus. They are inexpensive and always in stock. They're just...well...cheap.

The link for the Flatsider doesn't list an M&P9 FS in its drop-down. The closest model is an M&P40.

I'm a firm believer in "form follows function". It doesn't have to look pretty because I'm the only one who's going to be looking at it; as long as it does its job, I'm okay with it...

M&P9 FS and M&P40 FS are exact same outside dimensions.

I just picked up an MTR Custom Leather pancake holster at a gun show on Saturday. This will be my first try at concealed OWB so didn't want to spend a fortune on a holster that I might not even use. Quality seems good, fit is very good, and the holster rides high and tight to my body. So far I'm impressed, especially for a $45 holster.

Now, I'm not a lefty but they do list them to be in stock so could be worth a try. Sorry, no pictures either.

I can recommend Jason Winnie Leathergoods. He offers the J111 (open top) as well as the J131 (thumb break) as OWB's for the full size M&P. I have had both (sold the J111 b/c I wanted a thumb break) and they are top notch!

The J131 doesn't show on his website but it is available for the M&P. I have the very first two production models.

If you are interested please send me a pm or email, I then will give you a quote. Also, I have an order in the pipeline right now so it should take only a few weeks... maybe 3 or 4 until they get finished.

I like the simple design (and price) of the J111.

What is meant by "body shield"? Does the design hold the pistol straight up or with a forward cant (I can't tell if there is a second belt hole in the holster)? Does the holster secure the pistol safely (I notice there is no bolt to secure the area around the trigger guard)?

The body shield is the piece of leather that is between the exposed slide and your body. Say you leave your shirt untucked the body shield makes sure that the pistol doesn't rub against your skin.

as compared to the J101 w/o body shield.



The holster has a slight forward cant, yes. The pistol sits safely and secure despite the lack of a retention screw. I just wanted more security that's why I opted for the J131.

Oh, okay. Yes, the pics show the with/without body shield very nicely. And I like the forward cant, too; it's not as drastic as the FBI forward cant.

Sorry, I forget that not everyone knows this; the M&P 9mm and M&P 40S&W are exactly the same size. So, if you were to order the holster for the .40S&W model it will work perfectly with your 9mm.

EDIT: I just noticed that someone else already posted this info.

For the record, I'm also a function over form kind of guy. Especially when it comes to a self-defense tool. This is why I'm willing to spend a few extra dollars and wait a few extra weeks. I'd rather get one holster that will last me for years than buy a new one every year or so. Thin leather doesn't last. Thick leather is more expensive, but worth it in the long run.

First things first, jas4u. I need to buy a gun!

I just picked up a Mitch Rosen 5JR Express for my 9c. Having owned holsters from DeSantis, Galco, Milt Sparks, Kirkpatrick, etc..., I can tell you that this is a really well made holster, and it's super comfortable. They quoted 4 weeks plus shipping on the website, it was at my front door in just under 3 weeks.

And don't forget a good gun belt!!!

And because I got bored due to canceled work schedule this is on the works after 30mins of work.
