Rust on Shield Plus
I absolutely love my Shield Plus, but I took it out of my holster the other day and noticed some rust on the barrel. I took it apart and there was a fair amount off rust at the end of the barrel where it locks up with the slide and also on the top of the barrel. There was also a little on the front site itself. Have any of you had this problem?

Wow am surprised. Where was it stored? Some CLP and brush should remove most I think.

Some rust? If I added up all the rust I've ever had on all my pistols combined, it wouldn't amount to this much rust. I live in a fairly humid and salty environment in Eastern North Carolina and carry my pistols every single day. As was already asked, where was this stored?

It is stored in a dresser drawer. I've never had any rust on my prior carry guns stored in the same way. I'm in Minnesota, so I'm not dealing with maritime conditions or anything like that.

Thought they were stainless? That looks like you put it in your pocket with a peanut butter samich.

Those are the obvious wear areas which get abrasions to the factory finish. I always put a lite film of lube in those locations during maintenance.

Lol, that it does. I think the slide itself is stainless. After cleaning it up it looks like it was just the barrel itself that rusted.

Regardless of how it cleaned up, it should have never happened. I live in SEVA where the humidity lets us grow mold on mushrooms and never get rust like that on any firearm. I'd send those pictures to S&W and demand an explanation.

Looks dry. Clean up that rust with some gun oil and 0000 steel wool and keep a bit more lube on it.

Stainless steel is not rust proof. It still need to be wiped down with an oily rag once in a while.
