Small Needle Stippling (First Time Stippling)
Here is my first go at stippling. I ground down one of my tips on my soldering iron to get a pretty small mark. I like the look of it aesthetically and it feels like I could put more rounds thru it in one sitting without too much abrasion. Obviously I went more aggressive on the backstrap. Trigger guard is done too which I really like the feel of.
I also left off certain areas- where the trigger guard meets the grip and under the beavertail(if it's even called that on a poly gun?) Seems like a lot of contact/movement with the recoil in those areas so I left them off.
Tried to keep the angles of the stippled areas lining up with the established lines/angles already on the gun.
What do you think??

Looks great! Been wanting to do some gator or dragon skin stippling on a pistol, but will need lots of practice on some test pieces before I try it.

I think you can make that look good if you can keep your marks really consistent. So yeah, I practiced a lot before doing it. If you can find a dense plastic that is best for practice. I tried a couple plastics and it was totally different when I got to the poly frame.

I'm not a fan of stippling, but you did a pretty remarkable job.
Clean, uniform symmetric.
Are you left handed?

Nice job!
I have a question...
How expensive is a new grip if you screw it up?

Saudade, Yeah i am, hence the thumb patch on the right side. One of the better ambi control guns so I really like it for that. Just a solid gun in general tho.

JCase, Im not sure how much a new lower is. Unless you do something pretty catastrophic you will just make it look ugly, but will function fine.

A new frame is about $250.
I have a .22 rifle with polymer stock that I will practice on.
Thanks for the tips.

Gorgeous job. Very professional looking.
How long did you practice, and how long did the actual work take?

CB3, i didnt practice that long. I did the backstrap first with a big bit since I can replace that.(probably will do it again with a smaller bit) then maybe ten minutes before I did the rest. Started with the bottom of the trigger gaurd to hide any learning mistakes. The poly frame is actually easier to stipple than normal practice. It's dense and provides a little pushback so it's harder to overdo it. I was practicing on my M&P blue case and it goes thru that stuff like butter. Took 4-5 hours for everything I would guess.

Dear adventurous.....If you're not happy w/ the quality of the stippling you do....you can just wrap it w/ some Talon grips of similar grip tape.

I'm not a fan of stippling .. would rather see skate board tape applied .. reason .. it can be removed at a later date and doesn't devalue the weapon when sold if some one didn't like it ..
but must say that is the nicest looking job I have seen done ..!!
How do you like it ??

We are talking about a tupper ware gun, not knocking it, but when was the last time you didn't see one go down in value anyway.

Very good work for a first time job.At least with the M&P's you don't have to dremmel down a lot of molded checkering like with Glocks.I've done several in different textures and courseness. The different polymers on different brand guns all burn a little differently too. You're already on your game.it appears.

I first noticed the mag release. I later noticed the patch.
Again, nice job.

Looks great! For those of you looking to get into it, buy a couple polymer AR-15 mags and practice. $12.99 each at Academy. Then when you're comfortable, move up to your gun.
