Default M&P shield,need replacement 9mm barrel

Hey all, first post here. I am kind of in a bind. I dropped my barrel when cleaning my gun last night. It dinged up the feed ramp pretty good. I've been searching high and low for a replacement but can't find them anywhere. The gun shoots, but has FTF occasionally now. Can anyone help?

Sorry but no. S&W doesn't sell Shield barrels and no one carries them (no pun intended). Perhaps you can polish out the ding.

How about posting a picture?

The only way to get a replacement barrel, is to call S&W CS and tell them what happened. They will most likely replace it, but they will probably want you to send in your entire pistol, rather than simply sending a new barrel, or letting you send in just the barrel.

curious what type of surface you dropped your barrel on that could have torn it all up like that. I mean the barrel is hardened steel.

I would simply polish the feed ramp rather than hopefully replace the barrel. Just my thoughts..............

I dropped the dang thing on concrete and it put a nice little ding on the lip of the feed ramp. I'll try and get a pic up next time I have it apart. I'm trying to avoid sending in the gun as it is my only carry gun I have. It still shoots, but its reliability is now in question. Was hoping I could just buy the part so there won't be any down time

Buying a new barrel, even if you could locate it, isn't a one-stop solution -- barrels aren't drop-in, they need knowledgeable fitting.

Alternately, you can try very gentle taps with a ball peen hammer to flatten the dent, and a follow-up polish and range test, but I'm not sure I'd want to stake my life on amateur work. A qualified gunsmith might be a better alternative if you insist on trying to save the damaged barrel.

But if it's your carry piece and you can't rely in it, it's no carry piece at all. Best bet is to send it to S&W for repair, and in the meantime pick up a second to cover you while the primary is at the mothership.

This is the meaning of "one is none, two is one."

My Wilson Combat Match Grade barrel for my M&P PRO 9mm was a drop in and did not need any fitting. Was the best bang for buck add on for my M&P. Tightened up my groups very nicely.
Not every barrel is a drop in and some do require fitting. I just wish Wilson Combat made a Match Grade barrel for the 9mm Shield.

I had the same luck on my M & P Pro 1.0 they sent me the complete front sight instead of the fiber rod. The sight is a Novak so will re-use it on another M & P.

If your Pro is a 1.0 the fiber rod is .59 and we buying from fiberopticsproducts.com we buyin red and green as they also work on Dan Wesson's 1911's.

Fiber Optic Lighting

Apex barrel for the 4 1/4" & 5" M & P semi drop in and its 1/10 twist for 115's & 124's grain pills. Reviews have been favorable while they run $165 + just for the barrel, needs minor fitting.

With 3 million Shield's sold can't figure out why Apex doesn't add the Shield to their M & P line of barrels.

A Shield barrel?

I have a Shield .40, and I've read plenty of posts here where people have purchased a 9mm factory barrel as a drop in replacement to convert calibers.

Somebody's getting them from someplace but I'm not sure where.

Would still like to see a pic of the damage. May be an easy solution or may need a new barrel. There are options for replacement barrels and there may be some factory barrels out in the market (may be hard to find). I was lucky enough to buy factory 9mm and 357sig barrels for my M&P 40 FS and factory 9mm for my M&P 40 Shield. Have never had an issue.

Just pointing out this thread is over 4 years old. Lot's of things have changed since then regarding Shield parts. The OP hasn't signed on in 4 years.

File off and polish. Then you should be GTG.

I wonder if he replaced it or fixed it in all those years.

I would rather carry a brick or a rock instead of an EDC which might or might not function.

Yes, APEX produces those for the .40 to the 9 mm for 4 1/4" models to convert from .40 to 9mm. Their are other manufactures that also offer after market barrels for the Shield model too. When I run across them will post information.

At first that was a solution for people who wanted to carry a 40 for self defense, but shoot cheaper 9mm at the range. S&W figured this out, advised against it, & quit selling barrels. So that’s why barrels will now only be sold for replacing a damaged one. GARY.

Thanks for the info. GARY.

I've heard that the barrel hood in 9mm is lesser in width than the .40, and of course the cut in the breech face is wider to accept the wider .40 rim, so I really have no interest in converting my .40 to anything else.

Heck 9mm is hard to find on the shelf these days anyway so I'll live with my .40.
