Default New gun shooting left

We have all heard this one more times then we would like but though some of you might find this as funny as i did today.

I been fighting with this gun since I got it a couple weeks ago I just has a over tight chamber and also the users manual says the sights are set as pumpkin on a post which I don't care for on a SD gun so when it shot to the left I didn't have many good words to say. Knowing it wasn't me as all posters say I had to prove it or move the sight. Well with 340 rounds through it this week yesterday i tried to move the rear sight. Would not budge. Today I really bared down and shot the best I could off a sandbag rest and got great groups to the left. The more I shot the worst it got and this gun a the sweetest 4lb 10oz 1911 trigger I have ever shot. Well a friend showed up and I asked him to shoot it and it was hitting right where I was hitting and he agreed. Now here is the kicker. He looked close and the front sight was about to fall out of the groove on the right side. It is not always the shooter. Don

If the front sight leans right-it will shoot left-lots of new guns coming out of S&W with slanted sights.

if the front site was about to fall out of the groove, that should have been OBVIOUS. should not had to look "close" to see that.

if the site is off slightly, then that is another story.

Oh this one wasn't slanted it was loose and slid over. it wasn't a S&W gun it was a Springfield Arms 4" RO Champion a petty top end factory stock gun. Match Grade Bull barrel and a tight fitted slide, but a loose front sight but then the back one was tight couldn't get it to move at all. I am not knocking this gun it is petty nice. I have 5 M&Ps and just like to spread the love around. Don

Agreed, it was only moved over so the right edge was inline with the right edge of the groove. I still should have seen it but my mind was set that the rear sight was off. Give these old failing eyes a break they hate open sights. Don

Since reading this thread made another trip to shoot some today and I also am hitting left and really looked at my front sight.

It is just a smidge to the right of center,so If I bump it back to the left my shots should move towards the right ? And this is looking at it with the naked eye.

Thanks for any help and guidance I am doing some dry fire practice to work on trigger squeeze. I don't really have something to use to make an accurate measurement(besides my regular 25 foot tape) was going on the different gaps on each side on the sight base ears.

Well, I was having a lot of trouble getting a Ruger Government Model 22 to group decently some 25+ years ago. Really concentrated on my release and follow through and even got out a sand bag; then the front sight fell off. Figuring out the problem was rather easy after that. Finding the screw wasn't. I still giggle when I think about it.

The my friend the range manager/smith had it back on today and the gun is now shooting out the bullseye. Well actually it is the only handgun out of the 9 I own that I now have shots land to the right of center. Seams I always miss to the left. I had to try a mag dump at 7 yds. Started from low ready and fired as fast as I could pull the trigger and put all rounds in a 3 inch group. dang that put a smile on my face. Don

Yes, sometimes it's the gun.
