Default shield 9mm accuracy

I love my Shield in 9mm to carry or conceal. I hate the way it shoots. Or I should say it's POI. At 10 yards it is 4 to 6 inches low consistently. This is from a stable rest so I am not milking it. Not left or right just plain 6 o'clock low. I am going to try and correct it with sights but can't seem to find much reasonable available. Anybody have any suggestions?

I would rather not send it off to Smith but am willing to if that is the only solution.

Thanks in advance.

If you are using a 6 o'clock target hold, that's why you're shooting low. Cover the target with the front sight.

Thanks but that is not it. I should have clarified that it is shooting that low below POA.

Default Does it shoot low.....

Does it shoot low with different ammo? What kind of ammo are you using in it now??? Light, fast bullets tend to shoot lower. If you are using 115 grains you may want to try 124 grns.

I also throw some of mine low and to the right (I'm a lefty) but those are that I have not learned the S&W trigger yet.

Try holding the front dot center of your target. Both my Shields shoot POA/POI back to 10 yards. But 3 dot sights are usually for combat hold-front dot Center of Mass. Also try some 124 & 147 gr. ammo. My Shield 9 is a tack driver with heavier bullets; and no slouch with 115 gr.!

It doesn't happen often, but if you're shooting from a rest, with front dot covering the bull and it's hitting low, it COULD be a product of tolerance stacking and should go back to the factory.

I am having this exact same problem. I have shot multiple brands of ammo including 124gr self defense ammo. I cover the target with the front sight and impact is 6-8 inches low. I think I am going to send it to S&W tomorrow.

What is tolerance stacking?

Default I found this in the owner's manual.....

The certification below is required only for handguns sold in the
United States with a barrel length shorter than 3”.
Smith & Wesson Corp. hereby certifies average accuracy test results
for all new handguns with a barrel shorter than 3” as follows:
7 yards 14 yards 21 yards
1.7” 3.9” 6.3”
This certification is based on tests conducted by Smith & Wesson
Corp. using a fixed handgun, rest and firing ammunition manufactured by a member of the Shooting Arms and Ammunition
Manufacturers Institute (SAAMI) as defined in ANSI/SAAMI Z299.31993.
This certification represents actual tests based on several hand-
guns, selected at random. Your particular handgun may have accuracy better than the results stated in this certification.

I have to hold over about 6 inches to hit the bullseye with my Shield. I sent her back to the factory yesterday to see what they could find. I have full faith that Smith and Wesson will make it right.

Well, I'm very happy to report I was thrilled to get my new M&P Performance Center shield.

Today I shot it 100 rounds and I'm happy to report it does not shoot 8" low! IT SHOOTS 8" HIGH! (from 20 and 30')

I have never been so disappointed in a firearm in 50 years.

I would be better off shooting straight up and hoping the bullet would hit the target coming down. (very sad).

It seems to be a well built firearm, but if you can only use it to hit someone over the head, Harbor Freight has hammers that will do the same thing for about $4.

Wow from 20 feet I don't think I could miss by 8" with no sights. Have someone else shoot it and shoot it off a rest if it is still high it time to call CS. Don

I have the BG and I have put a small white dot on the top of the front sight. It worked beautifully for picking up the front sight in low light! Testor's white acrylic model paint works great.

Why would they put this in the manual when the Shield is just slightly bigger than 3"? FWIW, my Shield is accurate and precise. I am able to get a 5" group, where I'm aiming (center hold), at 7 yards, shooting rapidly (about 1 round/second).

I'm no marksman, but with practice I can put 95+% of my rounds inside an 8" circle at 25 yards, 75 feet. There's still the occasional flyer due to my imperfect grip and trigger management. But, this pistol is more than accurate enough for any SD use.

No comment about OPs issue, but mine and my wife's Shields are both plenty accurate.

I have the unmodified (except for Talon Grips) Shield 9 and there is nothing wrong with its accuracy. Shooting from 10 yards, fairly quickly I can put the entire magazine (7+1) in the center of my target and can cover them all with my hand. Mine is fine, as I suspect most are.

I suspect you are correct that most are. I use a Green Laserguard on mine and at 21 feet it shoots where the green goes. The iron sights are "on" at that distance as well. This is a carry gun for me. I wouldn't want to shoot past 50 feet for any reason I can think of.

What I'm getting out of mine @ 10 yards . . . (NOTE: The top right target is from another handgun, a Kimber Ultra CDP ,45ACP (1st generation).

My hold is always at the bottom of the tiny black 1" squares. 10 yards and 115gn ammunition.

Try heavier bullets, for the old rule is "the heavier the bullet, the higher it hits. Try some 147gn.

The CS guys told me that 124g is the design ammo for the Shield 9.

Mine shoots within 2 inches of center at 10 yards. I work under the concept that more that 10 yards can't be justified as self defense, but I expect that past 10 yards, I'll still draw blood.

I HAD the same problem: POI was low and left of POA.

My fix was to hold the trigger differently at the first joint on the index finger and pull VERY slowly.

During dry firing, I saw the front sight shake a little if I pull the trigger using the meaty portion of index finger on the trigger (as I do for other hand guns ). Via trial and error, I found that the front sight remains steady still if I pull using the first joint (I know, this goes completely against proper trigger control).

The end result is that Shield 9mm grouping is coming close to my Glock 19 grouping

I'm no lawyer but unless you're being shot at, for a non-LEO private citizen shooting at some one much past 20 feet let alone 50 will in all likely hood land you in hot soon to be boiling water.

I just sold my 40 Shield to help fund another new one chambered in 9mm as I am getting out of 40 S&W for economic reasons, but I wish I had saved my targets from that gun at 50 feet. I was completely satisfied with it's accuracy, otherwise I most certainly WOULD NOT be buying one in 9mm. If anything the I am expecting the 9mm to be more accurate as 9mm is easier FOR ME to shoot well quickly than 40 S&W.

I got a 9mm Shield some time ago and, aside from going to a bootleg range in the desert and bouncing a few empty plastic orange bottles around, I haven't shot it since. As an AZ Ranger we were required to use Glocks, which have a trigger reset, which means that instead of allowing the trigger to fully return to its full forward position, you keep the trigger fully compressed, then gradually release the trigger until you feel a slight "click." Then you can pull the trigger again and fire another round. I hope I haven't offended those who are well aware of trigger reset but there may be a few who don't. Anyway, when I shot the Shield I forgot to check whether it had this (possibly due to too much 1911 shooting?). So does it?

Yes. Shield does have trigger reset, but IMHO NOT as distinctive as the Glock reset.

I think it performed quite well. Slow fire was all in the center, rapid double taps spread out a little. This was unsupported at 7 yards.

I just got word from S&W that they replaced the sights and have sent the gun to the range for further testing. I guess it wasn't me after all. I should have it back in a week or so according to customer service. I'm kinda getting used to carrying the P07 though.

Nice rounds all around. You can't go wrong with the 9 Shield. I put my J-Frame Titanium in the safe and just carry the Shield and shoot it once a week. It is a very confidence-inducing pistol. I'll see how the warm weather goes for EDC.

7 yards, off-hand, slow-fire. Winchester 147g PDX Elite as I recall. I was aiming at the tape.

Sounds like fantastic Customer Service to me. Let us know how it shoots when it returns.

Default shield 9mm accuracy

I got my new PC shield out this week and had no issues with accuracy. Shot 50 rounds from 7 and 15 yards to get the pictured target. Also ran a 25 round off duty qual with it, but didn't get a pic of the target.

P. S. The two that were low were from me shooting fast and jerking the trigger a tad.

I just picked up a shield 40 yesterday and tested it out today. It was low and to the left about 5 inches at only about 12-15 yards. Looking at it closer I see the factory sent it out with the back sight perfectly aligned but the front is probably more than a MM off to the right. I picked up a 45c and it was dead on and I have a 9c and 40c and they are close to perfect at 25 yards. My wifes 9mm shield is just crazy. I can hit a 4 inch plate at 25 yards in 3 to 5 shots out of six. so Far all my M&Ps have been more accurate for me than a couple of glocks I had but I still my pickup a 20 in the near future for some 10mm fun. : )

Another accurate Shield owner. Stock.
At 10 yards, slow fire, I keep 10 out of 10 in a 4 inch circle, right on POI. I keep 8 out of 10 in a 3 inch circle. Double taps I keep in the 9 ring of a B-27 target.

I have to agree. I shot 100 rounds of 115 grain and was shooting low also but I shot 124 grain and it came up. Still a little low but a big difference
