Default S & W shield 9 mm shooting low left

I was shooting pretty much on target, but had a somewhat unorthodox two hand grip. Right hand shooter, left eye dominant. Instead of the normal right thumb top left thumb under grip, I was gripping with my right thumb in the normal position but my left thumb was positioned around my right hand at the base of my right thumb.

Since I switched to the right thumb top, left thumb under both pointing forward, I've been hitting low left of target. Looking for suggestions.

You can pull your groups to the right by inserting your trigger finger a bit more, so the trigger rests closer to the joint. More finger, more right, less finger, more left.

Shooting low is usually anticipation. Dry-fire five times between single shots, try it for about 5 rounds/25 dry fire. Dry fire a lot at home. The front sight should be rock steady when the trigger releases.

My wife has a strong tendency to anticipate. Her first shot may be a bulls eye, and the next five will be 3 inches lower than that. We stop, she dry fires 15-20 times, then back to live fire. Usually corrects the low shooting, though sometimes it take 2-3 cycles like that. By the end of a session she'll be drilling the bulls eye out again.

It's amazing how fast that tendency happens, too.

Thanks, will try that. Been doing a lot of dry fire practice at home. Also adjusting to shooing with both eyes open.

As mentioned, you need to find out which part of your trigger finger achieves a straight rearward press without twisting the pistol sideways. Since everyone's hands are different, there's no one magic finger placement when it comes to small thin subcompacts (especially the ones with no interchangeable back straps).

Thumbs up

Great tips on the trigger finger placement. I was not aware of this. I have a M&P9 and have noticed I have been shooting low/left also. I will try your suggestions on the finger placement next time I go to the range. Thanks!!
