Default Shield trigger pull weight question

I’m wondering if someone here can tell me a little more about the MA compliant S & W Shield. From what I understand, it has a 10 ½ pound trigger instead of the standard 6 ½ pound unit. Can anyone tell what the difference is mechanically? I assumed just the return spring. Is that in fact the case or is there more to it? I’ve called Smith, but the response I received was less that satisfactory. If it’s a simple fix, has anyone changed it to a lighter version, Apex or the S & W unit?

To be clear, I’m not looking actually to lighten mine up. I’ve tried the Apex unit and didn’t find it worth the cost. I have added an over travel stop and am actually very pleased with the trigger. I find it one of the best striker fired triggers I have experienced, now that it’s broken in. What I would like to do is actually increase the pull weight some, since this is a SD side arm. With the exception of the over travel stop, my Shield is all original with the standard 6 ½ pound pull, although I suspect mine is significantly less than that now. Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions.

you mean you aren't happy with the trigger pull weight the way it is? Not sure what you are gaining by increasing pull weight, unless you are used to a heavier pull. . like from shooting revolvers or other DA/SA pistols.
funny, you gotta be the first person ever I have heard of that wants to increase pull weight.

I know, sounds strange, someone asking to increase the pull. This pistol is strictly for SD; I clearly practice with it at the range, but if I'm target shooting and want small groups, I have pistols that excel in that roll. I am used to shooting DA revolvers, so a bit of resistance is comfortable and for a SD tool, prefer it.

6.5lbs isnt a light pull for that gun. not sure what your asking. does S&W use heavier springs and other different parts to get to a 10 1/2lb pull? most likely. If your wanting to make your gun more like a ma compliant version then you are the first. congrats. buy the replacement parts for the ma trigger.

You mentioned Apex....I put the duty/carry in my full size. If I had not replaced the spring it would have dropped 1 pound from the trigger pull from what I understand. Not sure if that is the case with your Shield. Wanted mine to stay consistant with my Shield. Also, you might want to pick up a gauge if you are concerned with the trigger weight. I got the Lyman.

Qadams I agree w/ you. Wife and I came from 15 years w/ Beretta 92s. Way back when I specifically chose the 92s for the DA first shot. 3 yrs or so ago I decided I wanted a pocket pistol and ended up w/ a Keltec PF9 which has a trigger a lot like the DA in the Beretta. Couple of months ago my wife wanted a purse pistol and settled on a Glock 19. I am amazed anyone thinks they are so safe. Trigger feels like a little bit rougher version of the Beretta SA pull. I just picked up an M&P Compact and have dry fired it w/ snap caps only so far. It also feels like a Beretta SA. I have changed springs and connectors on the G19 to give a heavier initial pull while the final letoff pull feels pretty much the same. I suspect I will be looking at doing something similar to the M&P after I have shot it some.
