Default 40 to 9 Conversion question

New to this forum and have always been a Kimber guy. My question is When ordering a KKM or Storm Lake conversion barrels, 40 to 9. What is the difference between that and a standard 9mm barrel. Does the 40 slide have a larger inside diameter for the 40 barrel, and therefore the 9mm conversion barrel have a larger O.D. so that it has the correct tolerance for the slide. I can't find any dimensions or information to tell the difference. Thanks in advance for any clarification that you guys can offer. I'm going to purchase an M&P40L C.O.R.E center ported.

vThe difference is in the barrel hood tang - the part that sticks out at the top rear of the barrel and has the loaded chamber indicator hole.

A 40 barrel has a wider tang than a 9mm. A 9mm conversion barrel has the wider tang to ensure proper lockup in the slide.

Thanks for the quick response. It is only dealing with the hood tang. The outside muzzle diameter has no bearing and must be the same for both 40 and 9mm. Contrary to what I was told at the local range.

By the way, those conversion barrels work great. All you need is the barrel and the appropriate magazine, amd you're set. If you choose to convert to .357SIG, you, don't even need a new mag.

I shoot much more 9mm through my 40FS with Storm Lake conversion barrel than I do 40. Same for my 40c. Just picked up a threaded conversion barrel for use with a supressor.

Flawless operation - 100% reliable.
