Hi all! I'm contemplating buying an M&P and the original owner used nail polish to paint in the roll marks. What is the best way to remove this? Will any gun cleaners remove this? Or should I use nail polish remover? I did read that acetone nail polish will eat the polymer and to use a non-acetone. Even that I'm scared of! I just want to make sure I don't ruin the gun.

Go to Walmart and buy a can of their Super Tech carb cleaner. Remove the slide from the gun. Spray a little of the carb cleaner on a paper towel and rub. It'll come right off. The carb cleaner may leave the slide a little chalky looking but a quick wipe down with gun oil will fix that.

The melonite coating on the M&P is really tough and nothing short of sandpaper will take the stuff off.

This is the most important part of Mr. Ballistc147's excellent advice. Pretty much anything that will easily remove the nail polish will also attack plastic. Once you get the plastic safely out of danger, you may find any number of solvents that will do the job already on hand in your garage or your significant other's nail care kit.

What is a roll mark? I have painted the lettering on my M&P's but it's all on the SS no the polymer. It comes off really easy with "non-acetone" finger polish remover.

Get some hoppes solvent and give it time to break the polish down. Use a toothpick to get the rest out of the rollmarks.

The roll mark is what you have painted, just the lettering and the non acetone remover worked great for me also.

Plain old acetone will easily take nail polish off.
