Did that resolve your issue? I'm having the same issue with a brand one I just picked up

Glad to hear they fixed your pistol and resolved the problems.

My brother has a shield and he's been pretty happy with it so far. I know that he's run at least a few hundred rounds through his with no problems. I shot it and for a small pistol it shoots well.

Good to know that it's fixed.

So did they give him a detailed explanation of what was fixed? ;-)

From the paperwork they replaced the barrel and polished the feed ramp. No clue why they would polish the ramp. So, I guess the barrel was out of "spec".

So in the end it all worked out. The only unfortunate part about it was that the owner had a new pistol took it out the first time to have a issue and it took nearly a month for him to get it back.

BUT... in the end, the customer got his Shield back, repaired and apparently in excellent working order and 3-4 weeks is not an unreasonable turn around time...
Love my two Shields..

I do. I can't see how something that out of spec left the factory considering it should have been test fired and caught during the QC process. However, lemons do get out there; and the owner finally has a functional gun. I suppose his point is that all's well that ends well.

Just bought a shield 2 weeks ago. Took it to range day after buying it and it would not fire with a rack after inserting clip. Tried on numerous occasions. Shot fine if I left slide lever racked back and then unlocked after inserting clip.

2 trips to range it did this. Additionally if I re-racked good cartridges would eject and fall to groud. So it was loading but not cocking properly I guess.

So went to range with co-worker today who owns a shield to make sure it wasn't just me. Well he struggled also. He literally had to pound the magazine in initially. Then rack.... It worked sometimes then seemed to jam.

Honestly I feel this has been the worst purchase of my life at moment. I bought a night stand and carry weapon I have no confidence in. Wish I went with another vendor daily....

ten... nine... eight... seven...

(I'm counting down the seconds until the nomenclature nazis bust your balls for calling it a "clip".) ;-)

In all seriousness, I'm having difficulty following your description of what was happening; but regardless, it sounds like you need to just call S&W and send the gun back for repair. Hopefully it gets fixed to your satisfaction (or at least gets fixed so you can sell it and buy something else).

Yeah S&W will make it right for you. I don't think any manufacturer makes them perfect every time.

Magazine.

Seriously shouldn't have to pound a MAGAZINE in 3-5 times so hard your hands bruise....

It seems to stick at times but when you rack it and there IS a round in chamber it does NOT fire. So rack again and it ejects unused round to ground at range which is impressive. Again it does NOT fire. So in a critical situation this weapon has ZERO value.

Yeah... just call them and send it back. Based on my recent past events, I'm not as sold on the fact that they will definitely "make it right"; but it needs to go back regardless.

Oh ya .... sorry Shawn..
No need to apologize. I agree that the Shield isn't my body, and the S&W tech is not my doctor. That said, the whole purpose of the Shield is to protect my body. So, I am curious enough about the problem to want to know how a barrel change corrected the issue.

Others are free not to care what the problem was, but that is not the way I roll. I want to know if the tech simply made a "shot in the dark" or if there was a reason for that particular solution because, by way of "news flash," it would not be the first time that a supposedly fixed firearm came back from customer service and still had the same problem upon return.

So, before I trust it, I want to know. If anyone else does not, that is certainly fine with me.

Don't care as long as they fixed it and it now works properly. Thats the absolute best that they can do.

I have the Shield in .40, PC. I have had ZERO issues with this weapon. I've thrown ~750 rnds through it and never had an issue. LOVE the weapon. Yes I clean and lube it, quite thoroughly, after every 100 rnds or so. Sorry to hear of the issues you've had.

My opinion of M&P line isn't good.

Shipped my Shield back on 4th of May. FedEx confirmed arrival on 6th. As of today they told me they haven't checked it in. I've owned this gun for less than a month. It has never worked right. Confirmed by another Shield owner as he shot it as well. Purchased on 4/16.....

I am sorry, but this is a lemon. At this point I can never recommend another Shield or M&P product...

Redwing471, I've read your posts and still don't understand what the issue is. Yes magazines are tight and if you try to insert it with closed slide you have to compress spring inside even more. Easier way to do it - open and lock the slide, insert magazine (no pounding required) and rack the slide. Your failure to fire a round might be caused by slide being out of battery. It might be a lemon or it might be an operator error. I've got my Shield 40 to the range right after transfer (no initial cleaning) and it chugged through 100 of my FMJ reloads and 4 boxes of HP SD ammo with zero issues. As of now it has about 500 rounds (mostly my FMJ reloads) again 0 issues, so I'm sorry I won't buy this "M&P line isn't good" .

Yeah I got one that works flawless as well. I got around 500 rounds through it with no issues.

The Shield, at least the 9 Shield is hard to bash. They're assembly line handguns and it could be a QC glitch. The return spring seating is always and issue on reassembly. With my new Shield I had a couple of out of battery slide issues. But when the trigger is depressed they went right back into battery. Haven't shot +Ps in it but no problems with different types or brands of ammo used. It broke-in fine. Your gun will be fine after the old bench check. Just a pet-peeve on my end. I bristle whenever I hear the term "shell" in place of "cartridge," or some TV police drama CSI genius calling an expended cartridge casing a "shell casing." Even the police watch too many Hollywood movies. Good Luck with the pistol, you did good.

When your first purchase on a product line is a bad experience, you tend to make blanket statements.

When the gun is returned and I decide on keeping or selling it I can share the online auction info if you like?

Since this is your first purchase of an M&P product you don't have enough experience with the line in general to promote a valid recommendation be it pro or con.

Hope they get your troubles sorted out for you.

While this is true, it is very easily argued that not a single consumer here has anything close to a statistically significant sample size of M&Ps, yet it is nearly unheard of for anyone to get on the case of someone who makes blanket POSITIVE statements about a gun. Many, many times I see someone post something bad about a gun and it is followed by a number of people who claim that the poster is wrong simply because they haven't experienced the same problem.

There are a bajillion M&Ps floating around out there. Even if a collector had a stash of 10,000 guns, he's still not qualified statistically to speak about the whole line of M&P pistols. However, there isn't a reason why his opinion (or yours or mine or anyone else's) is any less worthy of expression. We speak in hyperbole when we feel strongly about something, good or bad. I like to read the opinions while keeping this in mind and forgive the poster for his/her passion.

I'm no defender of S&W's inconsistencies or their slipshod service procedures. But I do grow weary of the one gun buyers who have a problem and then proclaim the manufacturer or the particular line poorly done and to be avoided by all parties concerned. Their sweeping generalizations give no consideration to the thousands of M&P owners who have no complaints with their equipment.

I'd like to see S&W take it up a notch or two but I doubt that's going to happen. I've purchased 5 M&P pistols over the last year and I guess I've been lucky - they all seem to work as expected.

When I posted what I said, I fully expected a reply like this to occur. However, I didn't think there was enough variation in the product line for someone to have a collection to this degree... You, sir, have a problem. ;-)

I don't know if he has a problem or not, but he must have one hell of an impressive safe.

So received my Shield back from repairs. Pretty detailed report on inspections and checks done.

I tested how it handled 10 snap caps and I must say it is like a completely different weapon. Going to range tomorrow, so updates will come. I am hoping it is fixed.

Update:
Took it to range yesterday and shot about 100 rounds with no issues. Magazine sometimes is a bit hard to initially insert, but better than before. I can't shoot this very accurately yet though. Mind I shoot low and left about 5". Not sure if it is me or the sites. My CZ 75 sites are dead center. So probably need to have them adjusted.
