Question Detroit PD M&P's

My son has been wanting an M&P .40 cal. for awhile now.
He is selling me his S&W SD9VE with a bunch of ammo and a case for $250. I found him an M&P.40 cal. at BUD'S GUNS for $399, FREE shipping. It's an UNISSUED DETROIT PD M&P.40 cal, original box and papers, 3 mags, and night sights. Opinions?

I recently bought a police trade in from Bud's and am very happy with it. Mine is from an unspecified PD. It was sold as a premium quality for $379. I wanted to buy the Detroit unissued 40c but they were gone before I could. I would definitely go for it.

I have always had great experiences with Buds.

I have not purchased any of these M&P trade ins since they are not in 357SIG. 40 is just not my cup of tea.

I'm surprised Detroit sells their guns. From some of the stuff I read about the city's financial issues.

Has Detroit adopted some other make or model besides the M&P? Does anyone know?

I picked up one of the Detroit unissued. It was just as described, brand new. I thought it was an excellent deal.

I've bought a couple of guns from Buds and have been very pleased.

Including a 40FS police trade in. Was bought for 3 reasons, to see if I liked the 40, to see how the police trade in guns were and to see if Bud's performed well.

I liked the 40 but ended up buying a Storm Lake 9 conversion barrel for it.

The gun itself was well worth the money.

And finally, I was pleased with Bud's delivery.

My son lives in Detroit and mentioned those to me. He just bought an M&P 9 from Buds after shooting mine for the 1st time when he was home for Christmas. Unfortunately I cannot buy one since they are 15 round mags and I live in New York.

I've seen Buds have M&P40 trade-ins down toward $330, so at $399 I wouldn't say it's a screaming deal.
Just depends on how patient you are, I guess.

Unissued, with night sights, 3 mags, and free shipping, I'd say that is a pretty good deal!

I have say that my M&P Pro CORE is my all time favorite. The good news is that a 357SIG barrel is just an internet click away and I am close to making that purchase.

When buying the 9mm conversion barrel, is it just drop in and start shooting, or, is there other parts involved?

I just got an "Atlanta Police" M&P 40 from Bud's and really like it. It shows a little wear, but not much. I haven't had a chance to clean it, but it's not that bad! The night sights seem to be shot, but that's ok. For $329 with 2 mags and the plastic case and all 3 grip backstraps, I think I got a really good deal...

BOR, yes, you did get a great deal. My son was going to buy the APD .40 cal. but decided he wanted a new M&P. And, the DPD M&P's are NEW! And, the night sights are as bright as day one.

On the Detroit PD M&P 40 how deep is the "DETROIT PD" engraving?

That's a good one...

DPD is transitioning to the Gen 2 MP40. Officers have the option to purchase their duty weapons, others are sold to Bud's.

Detroit PD is moving away from guns altogether.
They've discovered that with all the lead in their water, they can just use squirt guns.

When I saw the header for your post I had to look- only to find you were posting about semi-autos.
I've got an original Detroit PD M&P. K frame, 2 inch barrel, 6 shots, nickel.
Curses be upon S&W for using the M&P name twice.

Ethang, I am guessing you are an DPD LEO?
If you are, why did these M&P's sit around for so long? My son's DPD M&P was made in Jan. 2010. Were these firearms bought in 2010 and just sat around gathering dust on the box it comes in?

Another question on the DPD guns. Were they ordered with a special heavy trigger? I just chalked it up to being an older M&P (mine is a lightly used '13) but then I got a 40c off a friend. It was made two years earlier and has a much lighter trigger. Just wondering if DPD got something like a Mass trigger on their guns?

No, Detroit's water is fine. It's Flint's water that is bad. I think some of the guns were surplus. DPD is down to about 2700 officers, it had 4100 in 2001.

The first Gen's had heavier triggers installed, frankly they were horrible. The previous Glocks also had heavier than standard triggers. The Gen 2's are factory specs.

The unissued ones were just excess inventory that was not issued. DPD has been losing officers for some years now due to various factors.

Is a '13 pistol a first Gen then? Would S&W update trigger parts?

Just took delivery on mine today. Even the plastic case is brand new and clean. fired casing from May 2009, so it appears the night sights are dead. I will decide on changing them out after I get used to it. My gun club that it was shipped to remarked on what a great deal it was, and had two more in the shipment today. Can't wait to try it out. My .40 shield is still my EDC and this is for fun and games. Maybe nightstand duty. More than pleased by Bud's too. Ordered it Monday PM, here Thrus AM.

I ordered a police trade in from Bud's last week and got in on monday 4/11/2016 for $309.00 ( it was just the gun and 3 mags). I expected it to have been shot some and have extensive holster wear, but was completely surprised when I got it. It had not been shot or any evidence of use of any kind. I still need to run the s/n to see when it was made, but I am completely satisfied with this purchase and would recommend Bud's to anyone.

I ordered one for $309 delivered before they ran out. What dept was yours issued to? Did it have the mag safety?
