I had the original BG380 with laser and found it to be hard to actuate and couldn't see doing so under stress since it's not instinctual. I sold it because of that and it having a door screw that had to be locked down or it could potentially back out and lock up the slide.

They then came out with the model without the laser and I was happy to see it, but that manual safety was still there. It has a long somewhat heavy trigger pull and a firing pin block so why have a manual safety on it? It's like putting one on a J-Frame. They offer a safety-less Shield, so why have they not offered the BG380 in the same manner? Plenty of other DAO pocket .380s out there without them.

I know someone will say "just don't use it" ,but it's something that doesn't have to be there in the first place. I'm used to manual thumb safeties, but none of my DAO firearms have them and I'd like to keep it that way.

So, does anyone think they'll offer it one day without a manual safety?

I believe that in January S&W announced that a BG sans thumb safety will be released. Not sure when. (And presumably you live in a state that would allow for that. Here in California it won't happen.) I'm sure some BG fans will have more info.

I believe I saw an M&P 380 while I was in a gun shop last week that did not have a safety. I bought one with a safety because I wanted the one with the machine engraved slide and that's the only way they come. the safety does not bother me. I pay it no attention.

I bought one without a manual safety at a gun show 2 months ago. they are out there, just shop around.

If you don't mind, would you post S&W's SKU number, they don't show it on their website?

Due to abysmal trigger on the BG .380, I sold mine, without even shooting it. I bought a Ruger Custom LCP, no safety, and a much better trigger. You might consider that.
