Default M&P BG380 trigger components

I live in Massachusetts and purchased my new M&P BG380 w/ factory mounted CT green Laserguard last month. For those not in the know, MA requires that handguns have 10lb trigger pull unless it requires multiple motions to fire (ie. Safety).

My first range trip with the BG was tough, the trigger, which i have always read as having a longgg pull was also very hard. It really fatigued my finger after aprx 120rds or so so i called it quits for the day. I purchased some snap caps and dry fired the heck outta it and over two more range sessions i've improved a lot with it and the trigger does feel as if its worn in a bit more, although still a very hard pull.

I know Galloway makes a trigger for it, however I also read that it can cause light primer strikes. So out of curiosity, i did some searching for non-MA "free" state factory S&W BG380 trigger components seeing as how its perfectly legal to modify a trigger on your gun, a dealer just cant sell a new firearm that doesnt meet that "rule". I came up with nothin'.

So I called S&W and explained to the gentleman and he made me aware that ALL BG380 trigger are indentical. There are no free state and non free state versions. In addition, he said that ALL BG380 triggers have about 10-12lb trigger pull.

I remember reading reviews of this pistol before I got it and one instance of it having a "6.5lb" pull. So whats the deal? Do ALL factory BG380's have 10-12lb trigger pull or was I just being told that by S&W because they may not be able to sell me the "free state" components afterall?

I got my no laser BG in Feb. 2015 and found the trigger, although I've not measured it, to be about the same (although smoother) as the J frame I'd carried for well over 40 years. Thus far I've put over 800 rounds of FMJ & HP through it w/o a single malfunction. It's become my EDC b/c of the lighter weight, greater ammo capacity, faster reload, and accuracy. I don't like to change much on a carry gun and have only painted the front sight and put on a Hogue slip on rubber grip.

I've put aprx 320rds. through it so far and only 1 malfunction (last round in magazine flipped down). I love the gun in almost every way; looks, dimensions, weight, most importantly reliability (thus far) I really like how they aggresively stippled the grip, but being so small & light it actually really started to chew into hand so I ordered AGrip! for it which I have yet to receive. I also wouldn't be too keen on modifying function related parts on a carry pistol, but if S&W did infact have factory parts i'd consider it. I also painted my front sight which is abig improvement. My indoor range requires targets to be minimum 33ft. And its very accurate at that distance.

Either way, dry firing is really helping me get used to it, and i shot much better my last trip. Practice practice.

I'm just curious cause it seems no ones mentioned the hard pull, just the fact that its long

Re: the hard trigger pull I actually think it's a bit lighter than the J I carried for years, but I can't quantify that.

I never buy a pistol or a rifle without trying one first..just saying.I rented a lcp,g42,Colt Mustang and for me the BG380 won out.I like the DAO trigger and prefer a loooong pull in my pocket for I don't use a safety...

I actually dont mind the hard pull so much for the same reason you mentioned... i carry it safety off because of it. My PM9 however i carry safety on (MA version)

I here ya ,mine was smooth as silk right at 100 rounds but by then I was use to the trigger and she felt just right.I love everything about the BG380..Had a few issues with the lazer as it was the first pistol I've owned with one. Can't really say I'm a fan of the lazer.

I just put some rounds through my new no safety BG and I love it for a pocket pistol. The pull is long but smooth and I became accurate enough for a carry pistol after 10 or 15 rounds. Much more accurate than I ever was with my J-frame. I don't like to modify defense pistols so I will be sticking with the factory trigger.

Default 800 rounds and counting

i had the bg380 with the original insight lazer. hated the lazer. As soon as the M&P no lazer version came out I upgraded to that. I have 800 rounds right now...no problems that i can remember. and yes both triggers were the same...heavy and long. i don't mind it, its not too horrible.

Love my BG380, once I learned to not stage the trigger and just squeeze all the way through. Going to the range with it and my Shield is like night and day. The Shield trigger feels so soft after shooting the BG.
