question for Shield owners
I have a new Shield 9mm and noticed the ejector has a little movement when you push it with your finger side to side and up and down. Not much at all, but my Glocks and SR22 are rock solid with no play at all. Is this normal?
It seems like that is just how it is mounted but I have not had the frame apart to see if it is just mounted that way.
Not talking about the extractor which of course is supposed to move.

If it shoots fine without any failures then don't sweat it. If you have failures then send it back to S&W.

The Glock ejectors are fixed into the ejector housing. The M&P ejectors are kind of just hanging out in their cutouts on the sear housing. Depending on how the tolerances stack up, there may be more or less wiggle to them. Ejectors can also be bent from over-inserting mags -- but this usually only happens if the mag is way out of spec or is the extended type that is missing a baseplate to prevent over insertion.
If you start having ejection issues (stovepipes, hit in the face, etc.), then look there first. If, however, it works and the slop isn't so much that it contacts other parts improperly, it should be fine.

The correct answer to many questions of this type, i.e., "Is it normal/okay or a problem that my new XXX does/or doesn't do XXX? Should I send it back to the factory? Break out the Dremel? Take it to my gunsmith?" May be as follows:
People. Shoot the dang thing. If it functions as it's supposed to, you probably don't need to exchange it, fix it, or trade it for a baseball bat and a can of wasp spray.

The M&P ejector is not attached to anything. It sits in a slot on the side of the sear block.
Because of this design, it's not solidly fixed. So, yes, a little movement is normal.
However, I don't agree that just because it shoots OK today, it's fine. Most of the time that's true, but you're right to question a loose piece. Most parts on handguns shouldn't be wiggling around. I think you did right by asking the question.

Just to drive this home...
I picked up my new Shield yesterday. The ejector moves a tiny bit. I haven't fired it yet, but I'd be surprised if it doesn't work perfectly.
