My new M&P 9mm and releasing slide...
Hi,
I just purchased a new M&P 9mm Model 109201, build date of 9/16/14. Looks like the ONLY way to release the slide on this particular model is to always have to lower the "sear deactivation lever" every time you need to break it down. However, all the You Tube reviews shows that you can just pull the trigger to break it down and you DO NOT have to lower the pin!
So is this model different? I can NOT pull the trigger to release the slide, I have to lower the pin every time!
Am I doing something wrong here?
Thanks!

When you pull the trigger It should release.

It has a mag safety. You need a mag in it to pull the trigger and release the striker.

Nope, just tried it WITH the mag in, slide WILL NOT come off. With mag in, the trigger does not engage, just goes all the way back.
I am locking the slide back, rotating the take down lever to down position, release slide lock, pull trigger the slide is NOT coming off.

Does the slide come off if you rotate the sear deactivation lever?

YES! rotating the pin down, the slide releases perfectly fine, but NOT the other option of pulling the just trigger. So every time I need to break it down, I need to pull out the frame lock pin and push it downward, what a pain!
Also, that pin looks and feels a bit filmsy and delicate and seems like eventually it will just bend or break!

OK, so you have a "formerly" CA Compliant M&P. Mine is the same SKU. You have a mag safety. It also comes with 10 round mags.
First, I'll say it's not a Glock, do not treat it as one. The manual specifically states the proper way to release the slide is to use the sear deactivation lever. (OK, off my soapbox).
If you wish to pull the trigger, you need to:
1. Remove the magazine
2. Lock the slide back
3. make sure the weapon is clear!! (double and triple check)
4. While locked back, rotate the takedown lever
5. Reinsert an *EMPTY* mag.
6. Release the slide (this time it's OK to ride the slide) (you can reverse steps 5 and 6 if you want. I do so I can verify again the mag is empty).
7. Point in a safe direction
8. Pull the trigger. The slide should jump ahead about 1/8th of an inch.
9. Release the mag. You may need to pull it out. You should point slightly upward so the slide doesn't fall off.
10. Remove the slide.
If you decide the mag safety is a pain, there are plenty of threads and Youtube vids to remove it.
Try it and let us know.

Yes
It worked!! Thanks for the detailed instructions! Whats strange is all the You Tube videos I watched I dont remember anyone reinserting mag than removing it.
So, S&W sells a M&P 9mm model WITHOUT a magazine disconnect??

I'm glad it worked for you. I'm not aware of any stock models with 15 rounds mags so you're stuck with 10 round models.
There are some places that offer 15 round mags but you need to monitor them to catch them in stock. G&R tactical is one such place.
Forgive me if my tone seemed harsh at first.
Welcome to the forum.

Saudade,
Thanks, I see S&W is now showing they have the 15rd magazine for the M&P 9m back in stock, I will probably order a few so I will have 2 15rds
and 2 10rds magazines for it.

You mean besides 2 rounds?
NJ (and CO) have 15 round mag limits. So these are limited for compliance.

So now we have 10 round limits and 15 round limits? Sad.
