Default My M&P9C for Home Defense.

I bought this M&P a few months ago. At the time I had a Ruger American Pistol that was full size for my home defense and night stand pistol. I like the Ruger American but did not like it as my night stand pistol for home defense. The American did not have a safety on it, I traded it for this M&P9C because of the 9C safety, for my night stand weapon I want the added feature of the safety so I do not accidently pull the trigger while reaching in the dark on the night stand searching for the gun. Plus if startled while a sleep I want the extra step of releasing the safety. The 9C has a safety like a 1911 which is very easy to actuate and a safety that I am use to. Anyway here are some picture of my blinged out home defense 9C. I really like this pistol for the use I have it for. I carry a Glock 43 some but the most I carry a Glock 26. That relegates the 9C for home defense, the light laser combo works very well and an excellent addition for home defense. The next gun purchase will be a M&P 9 5" slide model or a Ruger American again after they atrt offering the safety option.

Nice. I like the stippling; where did you get it done?

I have a 9c also. I have factory night sights and a Viridian CTL. I didnt want the light to go past the barrel. No reason other than aesthetics.

I bought all the stippling off of ebay. The guy that does it is in the service and does it on his time off. I am not sure if allowed to post a link so if not allowed please delete. As far as the light sticking past the muzzle, that is also the only thing I did not like but you get use to it quickly and it is just such a good and easy light to use. You can have just the light or just the laser or both at the same time. Works great.
Here is the link for the stippling.

That looks like goodies from A2 Stippling - he does very nice work and is certainly affordable.

For home defense you might consider using a 17 round magazine with an XGrip extension.

Here's my 9c with A2's goodies:

Homeless I also have the 15 round magazine with the X-Grip extension. Works well but I like the look of the A2 Stippling so I keep the 10 round magazine in the gun and the 15 round close. That 9C also looks awesome.

Agreed. The stippling looks great and certainly enhances the handling of the weapon. I may purchase another set from A2 with the pattern you're running just so I can change things up occasionally. I really like the appearance of both styles.

I run that same lamp on a couple of guns. Not too bright, not too big, easy to operate. I also like the ease one with Which it can be removed and re-installed. Very versatile light..

I was trying to decide between stick on grips and stippling. I am leaning heavily towards stippling.

I really do like the grips and sights, but the white billboard lettering on the slide leaves me...speechless!

Yea Moxie saw you post in the painting post. It is not for everyone but I do like it and this is the only Pistol and or Revolver that I have it on. But it sure does make me like the looks. In fact this is the only gun I have any painting of the lettering on.

My 9c went through a few paint fills before I found what I liked. The pic I posted earlier was the first iteration and I found it brighter than desired. I tried a creamy beige mix that I made and it was better but I finally used a gray that I lightened slightly with white and that is what I have on the gun currently. I like the more subtle effect but color fill is indeed a subjective thing. Fortunately I don't give a darn what others think as I do my firearms strictly for my own appreciation.

I like the idea of a gun with a safety for a night stand gun. I have been awakened suddenly from a deep sleep and didn't have all my wits about me. That happened a lot when working rotating shift and the alarm went off. I didn't know what time it was or why the alarm was going off. Bad idea to make a very bad decision when you are not fully awake. I am paranoid enough that I won't leave a live a round in the pipe on the night stand gun. Yes I would loose a couple of seconds in a fast developing defense situation, but I want to have all my faculties.

I think there are quite a number of folks that want an external safety on their weapon. A nicely sized and functional safety is even more desirable.

One of the attractions of the M&P series is the availability of a pistol with or without the safety. Works out great for both camps. Its nice to have options.

Regardless of your choice of external safety, you should go to the range and practice, practice, practice. If you are awakened in the night by an intruder, your "muscle memory" should be automatic. That is the last place and time to try to remember what your gun looks or feels like in the dark. If you've ever had any classes in lifeguard, EMT, CPR or whatever, you already know this. Above all, be safe in your practice!

Boomer, I don't care how much you practice. If you are reaching for you're gun on a dark night stand in a completely dark room it is always possible to hit the trigger. After the gun is in you're hand yep training takes over.

What is the brand of red/green sights ? I shoot well with the stock white sights but these old eyes aren't what they used to be. I think yours would make it easier to pick up. thanks
