Default Shield 9 barrel swap with "regular" 9 barrel

Question: Will longer barrels from any other M&P 9mm model work in the Shield 9mm?

Edit for Answer: No way. See pic and description in answers below.

I don't have a regular M&P 9mm to try it with, but one of you lovely nutjobs must have both and have tried it.

I know barrels are very hard to come by as S&W doesn't sell shield barrels anymore because of .40 to 9mm swappers. This isn't a caliber swap question.

I know there are companies that will extend and thread. (Tornado)

Purpose: Cut threads, add compensator, (and get snarky , unwelcome, and holier-than-thou replies to this post).

Why compensator?:

1) put sight on compensator = 20%+ longer sight radius

2) stays in battery (fireable) if the gun is pushed into a soft surface, like a ̶ ̶b̶a̶d̶ ̶g̶u̶y̶ ̶ pumpkin, watermelon,ballistic gel, or ̶ ̶a̶n̶o̶t̶h̶e̶r̶ ̶b̶a̶d̶ ̶g̶u̶y̶ ̶ clay.

3) Compensated Shield without buying a second $550+ performance center Shield.

(Yeah, that's right, Oxford comma. What'cha gonna do?)

I appreciate brevity as the soul of wit.

So, neither the compact 9 nor the full-size 9 barrel will fit in the Shield.

I would appreciate any explanation why it would not work, just for my education and for future forum-searches.

Barrel taper? Lockup issue?

Thanks for any information.

As of this writing (June 2016), I found Tornado Technologies LLC will extend and thread a shield barrel for $160.00 USD.

The square chamber area of the two are different sizes so grinding would have to be done to make the compact or full size barrel fit in the Shield slide. Also, the larger diameter on the muzzle end of the barrel has to fit the hole in the end of the slide properly for accuracy and function. The longer 9c or 9FS barrel isn't going to fit there either.

The Shield, though essentially the same design as the 9c and FS M&P, is quite different dimensionally. Even the trigger return spring is different.

Imagine a 1911 vs a Springfield EMP.

Thank all of you, very much, for taking the time to educate me.

Chagrined I didn't see that barrel-comparison picture before, shield is dramatically different. I swear I searched for "barrel comparison" on the forum...

Good info on the barrel diameter, too.

I'll probably send it to Tornado and get mine extended and threaded.

Thanks again, all, for taking time for my silly question.

Hanging a comp on the barrel of a small carry gun.... I predict a hit to cycling reliability, an extra step for disassembly/cleaning, and a need for a custom holster.
That is to say if you don't end up with an eyesore or like eyesores and do want to keep that config.
Take pics.
