Default Thinking of buying a Bodyguard

I am thinking I want to pocket carry this summer and I ordered a DESANTIS N38 The Nemesis for my 9mm Shield but think the shield is just a little big. I know a lot of you say you pocket carry it and I am going to give it a try but the Bodyguard fit in my pocket so much better today and I had gym shorts on. I looked at all of the guns that size and it is between it and the Glock that size I can't remember the model number not being a Glock man. The Glock was actually nicer but a little bigger and cost a lot more. I liked the LCP but didn't like that the slide doesn't lock back.

I also wanted to pocket carry. My shield was to big. I bought an LCP.
It had a better trigger than the BG, and was cheaper too.
I've only put 70 rounds through it so far but it's been flawless. I shoot it as well as my shield at seven yards, maybe better?
Good luck on your pocket gun.

Thanks Dave. I looked at the LCP. I am alright with the trigger on the Bodyguard as I like the idea of the long hard trigger pull on a gun I am going to be pulling out of a pocket holster. If I can keep a 6" group with it at 10yds i will be happy.

Default Thinking of buying a Bodyguard

I've pocket carried the ruger lcr (which is similar to the Bodyguard), Shield, and Glock 43. None are easy but my Glock 43 is the easiest to pocket carry. I couldn't pocket carry the Shield at all and the LCR was a bit fat. My primary carry is the 43 with a sticky holster. Can go in pocket or at 4 o'clock. Best $20 I've spent

I have a Bodyguard and it is very accurate and reliable. Over 500 rounds and no failures of any kind so far. The only drawback is 380 ammo is a little more expensive than 9mm, but it's not a range gun anyway.

I will be reloading my practice ammo to the same specs as what I carry. After testing the carry ammo in the gun I hope to never have to buy more then to fill a couple mags.

My wife bought a BG sometime last year. It's surprisingly accurate even with the horrible trigger plus it has been 100% reliable with all factory ammo we have run through it plus my own handloads. As long as you're ok with the trigger you will like it. I still prefer my little Taurus TCP as the trigger is a little shorter and much lighter. The TCP did take a little work to get it to feed reliably but has had no problems since with about 700 rounds through it now. I pocket carry it all the time even when carrying the Shield or 40c.

The BG is an excellent little pocket gun and will go anywhere. You won't even know it's there.

Being only a SD gun and a close range one the trigger is no big deal. I shoot my GP100 DA with no problems. My good friend at the gun store says if the time comes and you have to use it in a hurry you will never even notice the trigger pull.

I have a body guard which gets a lot of carry time. I initially had a problem with light strikes and sent it back to Smith. They changed the slide assembly (go figure) and did improve but still had some light strikes. My gunsmith put a heavier trigger spring and solved the problem.
I actually like this gun a great deal and I'm glad I didn't give up on it.

Got my no laser BG in Feb. 2015 & no problems so far with over 800 rounds of FMJ & HP; totally reliable & accurate out to 7 yds. I did have the mag pop out the other day when sitting in a chair and I rubbed against the armrest. I felt the mag pop in my pocket and just carefully pushed it back in so be sure to keep that in mind when pocket carrying.

Try to shoot one before you buy. Its a nice pistol EXCEPT for the mile long trigger pull which I found unacceptable. Really makes accuracy difficult.

I have one, and honestly, I don't care much for it. Trigger pull is a mile long, and the thing is snappy as all get out. I've also found it to be less than reliable when it comes to feeding ammo, and have had several light strikes.

At the price I am getting it at I will be able to sell it at the range I shoot at and make a few bucks. I dry fired it at the range store and it is no different then shooting my revolvers DA. I was having no sight movement dry firing and it is a short range SD gun. When you need it you probably will never notice the trigger pull.

I own a M&P bodyguard 380 & it's pretty much been my summer carry. I carry it in a desantis nemisis pocket hoster which works out very well... Overall the pistol has been 100% reliable with name brand defensive loads such as Hornady's critical defense & federal's hydra shoks. With FMJ range ammo it has been about 97% reliable... Keep it cleaned at all times, it gets finicky if it gets dirty. I think you'll like it a lot... Go for it!

Over 600 rounds ZERO fails ZERO light strikes and I would only put a long pull DA in my pocket and with my Galco ISW holster at 3o'clock I can conceal her with just a t-shirt.

You all are making it tough to wait till 1 July to order this gun. All the reloading stuff is on the way so I can start cranking out loads.

I'm carrying a BG 380 with an Insight Laser in my pocket and in a Galco pocket holster which I prefer over a couple other ones. I don't it's wise to lighten up the trigger for pocket IMHO

No I am glad the trigger is what it is carrying the BG in my pocket. I am carrying my Shield in a DESANTIS N38 The Nemesis but think I am going to try the Sticky for the GB. My holster drawer still has a little room left if I don't like it.

I've "solved" the light strike issue with my bodyguard. 12lb trigger pull now. And, hey, it's got the "multiple strike until it actually goes off" feature, so it's good to go. As an added plus, it confuses the heck out of the bad guy, thinking that after three clicks it isn't going to fire, leading him into a false sense of security. "BANG"!...it surprises both of us!
Sure I could carry my LCP, which doesn't have any of those issues, but hey, I paid money for the BG380, might as well carry that instead, right?
Sorry for the sarcasm, but it's been back to Smith twice, and came back with the same issues each time. Not a fan.
Don't get me wrong, I know some of you have won the BG380 lottery, but it passed me by.

For a small pocket nine, check out the Kel-Tec PF-9 and the Kahr PM9. Both are shorter length than the Glocks so they fit your pockets better. The Kel-Tec is slimmer, but the Kahr is a little nicer pistol with a better trigger pull. You likely won't like shooting them, but these are not range pistols--these are SD pistols, carried much and fired little. They will give you the 9mm Luger punch you need in a small, lightweight package that you won't leave at home.

Good luck.

Between my brothers and me, we have 6 bodyguards, all with lasers. At this point we've had no problems with any of them. the trigger pull on mine are excellent....8-8.5# and smooth as butter. I carry mine every day in a Remora in my pocket. I do not think there is a safer [less dangerous] semi-auto available. The only ammo that I have had light strikes with is the Fiocchi jhp.

I bought one, then sold it. Glad some folks seem to have purchased ones that worked. Mine was a nightmare trigger....not even close to accurate. Figured what the heck, it'll work for close up defense. But sold it because it was a near impossible to disassemble and reassemble.

I agree- the shield is a little too large for pocket carry. I have a 380 LCP , but wanted something larger, so I went with a LCPS PRO which is a better size for pocket carry and I will take a 9mm over a 380 any day .

Wow, I must have got lucky. I've had my BG for about 5 or 6 years now. It's been 100%, never even had one of the lite strikes, has about 1000 on it now. The trigger is heavy, but it's smooth and no stacking. I carry mine when the shield is too much to hide.

I used to laser once, and shot the tightest group I think I have ever shot with a handgun. I love the little thing.

I had the LCP before I got the BG, I couldn't keep my hands off the mag release no matter how hard I tried. It was a fine pistol other than that, but the BG is so much more gun in my opinion.

No matter how I'm armed, the BG .380 is always in my waistband, appendix holster. There's not much of me (30" waist), and the bodyguard is an excellent hideout.

It's an up close and personal defensive firearm not target gun. Trigger? Much ado about nothing. Want a gun with a great trigger, get a 1911.

I ordered the BG this morning. $285 out the door from Quantico Tachnical this morning. I also ordered 3 mags on sale from Natchez $12.99 each. Hope that was a good price they were on sale.

I want to shoot a good trigger then my Mark III Competition with the Volquartsen trigger assy and 1lb 14oz adjusted to very little take up and hardly no over travel is my favorite. My 1911s are good but not that good..

I think you'll love it. It's a great gun for what it is designed...up close and personal defense. Like you, I don't mind the trigger pull and consider it an added safety, especially for pocket carry. Mine has a thumb safety, but in my opinion, with the long trigger pull, it is totally unnecessary. The trigger pull and the fact it is a little snappy takes some getting used to at first, but once you do that, it shoots great. I run either Winchester PDX1 Defender or Hornady Critical Defense. Both rounds scored really well in testing.

For pocket carry, I use an Uncle Mike's inside the pocket holster #4, and for OWB, a DeSantis mini scabbard #019 U7. With either one, you'll easily forget you have the gun. They are just that lightweight and comfortable. I'd be wearing mine right now if my company would allow it.

A 380 is better than a sharp stick-if you can carry a 9mm it is better than two sharp sticks

The accuracy in your case is the person holding the pistol. I have never had a light strike with My Bodyguard 380 and the accuracy is astonishing. One just has to get used to double action only weapons. My 380 has a perfect record and has fired hundreds of rounds.

I have no doubt the BG380 is a good pistol & or if not S&W will make it one.
I did try to like it shooting it at the range , for me it was not so much the trigger pull but where it breaks ' all the way back ' I have use my trigger finger past the first knuckle & I know in a pressure situation my finger is going the way I have trained it.
,
My wife's LCP was a little better & even more so after I put the hogue grip on & a little stronger recoil spring. I could actually shoot it but still not willing to depend on it.
,
I bought a Bersa thunder carry 380 ( a PPK clone ) it's a great shooting gun but has some design flaws & is too heavy for pocket carry.
,
So now I am looking for a LCP Custom , suppose to have a better trigger that breaks in better place , must be something to it cause every where I look it is sold out.
,
I am sure your BodyGuard will be just fine , I remember many people telling me not to get my SD 9 ve because of the terrible trigger , it is my go to gun & I would carry it all the time if I could.
,
Have a Great Independence Day
