Default Haven't seen an M&P 22 thread in a while...

I did some searching though and found a few here. Skimmed all of them. Generally good reviews on the M&P 22's, here and elsewhere on the web. I found a LOT of love for the compact model.

I was casting about with an eye toward buying a first handgun for my son as a birthday present.

He's a lefty, so the ambidexterous controls on the M&P 22 were a feature that made it an attractive choice.

I headed off to my favorite gun shop this morning after calling yesterday and being told he had several in stock.

The whole birthday present plan nearly fell apart when I got the chance to handle the compact. Nice little gun. I can see why people like them. I found myself thinking...hmmm, maybe I just buy myself the compact and get him something else...

I managed to fight off the selfish thoughts and snagged him a new M&P 22. I gave it to him this evening. He was thrilled!

We spent some time this evening going over, (again) safety, responsibility of owning a firearm, walking him through field stripping it and reassembly, and finally gave it a good cleaning.

Range session in the morning! This has already been a lot of fun.

Thumbs up Birthday success

So, we headed out to the range today. Pretty darn hot here, but we enjoyed the session. I have to call this one a win. He's happy about his first new gun. We had an all M&P outing. 100 rounds through the new .22 were flawless. My .40 Shield also didn't miss a beat. A successful birthday and father's day.

That's great! Good to see you are teaching him all the aspects of firearms including safety. I started my son out when he was about 5 with a 22 rifle first and then with a 22 pistol when he was a little older. He is now 21 and we just went shooting together yesterday. It's sad that so many kids out there that don't have a dad in the picture and this IMO is the reason our society is going in the direction it is.

On the 22c, I shot mine yesterday for the first time in quite a while. I had forgotten just how much fun it is. Put about 150 through it and 50 or so through the Shield 9mm. I think between the two of us we went through close to 400 rounds.

Keep up the good work and thanks for being a great dad!

Thanks Ballistic147. It was a good day. We had some fun today. The boy is pretty stoked over his M&P birthday gun. And I am in turn, pleased with the purchase.

Nice to see a lefty shooting. I really like my .22 compact as well.

My first day with the compact. It was a blast.

The compact is really nice little gun. I lusted after one a bit after handling it. Had to stop and remind myself why I was there.

I opted for the full-size gun, thinking it would be better for a new shooter to work on fundamentals, without the added challenges of compact guns. I think it worked out alright.

Bought my wife the compact for Xmas, she has never shot, 2 months later bought her the Shield9, 2 months later a perfect score for her CHL

Now we pull it out regularly for plinking and absolutely love it!!!
(It rides in the same book as the Shield)
