Default Choices For A Shield IWB Holster

Just would like to know what other Shield 9mm owners are using for a IWB holster for carry. Leaning towards Kydex but leather would also be a consideration.Seems to be a lot of choices out there.

I switch between Alien Gear 2.0 tuck and DeSantis pocket tuck that was for a Beretta Nano. I like both but the Alien Gear takes a little longer to put on.

Forgot to mention that the good thing about the Alien is if I decide to change guns for carry I just change the shell instead of buying a new holster.

N82 Tactical Professional model. Super comfortable, quick on and off, along with good retention. The draw stroke does take a little practice to get it dialed in but overall a great IWB holster.

I have the Milt Sparks SS II for several guns because it's so comfortable. PM me if you want to try mine for the Shield and I'll send it to you.

Sof tuck. Cheap and very comfortable, but do recommend a new belt clip. The plastic behind the belt one hangs all the weight on your pants and not the belt. I bought a $3 metal clip off amazon and it's perfect now.

I like the Galco Tuck-n-Go. I can tuck my shirt tail in over it. The hook goes under the belt and the little quarter inch end is all that shows.

I've been carrying my Shield in a Remora IWB since I bought it. It stays in place and there is no printing. It just took awhile for me to get comfortable with the fact it wouldn't fall out of my pants.

After buying expensive holsters for my shield, I'm back to my cheapo Galco sto-n-go for AIWB. $26 and it just works.

Your welcome. I love my Jel Tech and for the price can not be beat.. I bought my DIL a Holster from Gun Goddess ,She buys alot there. It was 50$ and IMO and my son not as nice as the Jel Tech for 1/2 the price.. I bought 8 so far for my son and guys at the shop , and a few member here purchased the JT. I am sure you will be happy with it. John is a great guy to deal with and you should get it about a week.

Stealthgear onyx. they have an even smaller version out now as well. I use the Onyx and the Flex their OWB holster with my shield. it disappears and is crazy comfortable. A little pricey but IMO well worth the cost

Both are major players in the AIWB game. Both have their products worn by bad *** guys in the mideast and south america....

I'm also using a DeSantis Sof-Tuck. I carry cross-draw at about 10 - 11 o'clock position. The clip on this holster can be angled either forward or backward. That allows many different carry positions.

I have a Foxx holster in the full size, it's like a crossbreed knockoff and it's not bad, I upgraded the clips to actual crossbreed metal clips and it works fine, the biggest problem with Foxx I've had is the clips, on the full sized holster the clips feel cheap and I have a smaller version for my Kahr P380 and the clip broke, a plastic one. The biggest problem with Foxx holsters is they don't stand behind their product, they don't warranty the clips, so if you don't mind replacing the clips, the holster part is not bad quality & not real expensive.

My shield rides in a Foxx. It's the fullsize one, and I love it. The metal clips are a little sharp, but have not broken. Only thing I may have done different is get horsehide. I can sweat through my plain black leather if it's real humid.
YMMV,
David.

Jason Winnie is my favorite. And there should be one in stock for the Shield.

Received the Jel Tec for my Shield today from John. I am very happy with this holster. Just a slight tweek of the screws and she sits in perfect. Highly recommended. Low cost but high quality.

Note that the Jel Tech covers the magazine release button. That spring is a bit wimpy and this holster prevents inadvertent magazine release...a really good feature.

I also received my Jel Tec. I'll do a pictorial comparison later but some differences compared to my Concealment Express:

Retention: The C.E has an audible click when inserted fully, while the J.T. doesn't. The J.T. had a more positive lock in after adjusting the rubber tension stoppers so that the outer is loose and then tighten the inner tension screw (C.E. only has 1 tension screw), still no audible click but much better (not better than the C.E., better than initial retention before adjusting) Both secure the pistol properly. Minor win to the C.E for the audible click.

Coverage: I did like the fact that I can eject my mag with the C.E while the J.T. covers the button (I eject my mag when I get home and put my Shield away). I can see why this would be important for accidental mag release, but it's never happened to me. It doesn't matter though. I can always remove the material on the J.T. if I decide I want access to my mag ejection button.

The C.E form fits the Shield much better (it even forms to the slide's scalloped grips) which adds to that audible click. The C.E molds to the take down lever, slide release lock, and thumb safety individually (I have the no safety model) while the J.T molds a single channel for all 3. You would think the C.E would be preferable but those 3 bumps create pressure points against your body whereas the single channel mold of the J.T distributes pressure more evenly. The J.T. mold covers the rear sights so no more jabbing in my side. The J.T's less-precise mold makes for a smoother surface against your body whereas the more-precise mold of the C.E. makes for pressure points. Win to the J.T.

Belt Clip: I like the J.T. better as it's mounted closer to the holster and doesn't stick out as much. J.T. sent me both belt clips at no charge (I had to request it). The J.T. has a flat surface to match the belt clip area whereas the C.E. belt clip doesn't.

The biggest thing I noticed and the deciding factor for me: The J.T's belt clip is mounted higher so that my gun now rides about an inch lower on my hip than the C.E. It's so much more comfortable and my gun doesn't shift as much because of the lower center of gravity. Yes......yes I know a proper gun belt would help with shifting and weight distribution but convenience is #1 for me. Maybe I'll eventually get a gun belt but for now the J.T is way more comfortable, really noticeable when driving (I have an 8 hour trip to Yellowstone coming up). In addition, the J.T. conceals better both from the less-visible clip and the lower ride height. You can't beat the price and service either (C.E. had good service as well but costs twice as much).

Based on a recommendation from my Brother I ordered from,
On Your Six,
Smith and Wesson Custom Kydex Holster | Custom Concealed Kydex Gun Holsters

I also added a single mag pouch.

I don't have them yet, but my Brother wears his Bersa .380 and reports it is very comfortable.

I've looked at some Alien gear, and Bianchi, and they look good as well. My Brother has an Alien gear, and while he did not say it was uncomfortable, he definitely notices it a lot more due to it's size as compared to the smaller kydex.

I have an all kydex iwb holster and don't use it. It hurts me by pressing against my hip bone. I have two SAFARILAND/BIANCHI MODEL 135 holsters, one for my 40c and one for my Shield 40. They are very comfortable and cool in hot weather. Also their belt C-Clips are very inconspicuous. You also have the ability to tuck your shirt in if you should need to. You can find them for around $50 if you shop around.

I have to second CoachRay. After trying several other holsters I have settled on AlienGear. They have a great guarantee . You don't like it - return it. I have used mine for about 2 1/2 years for a Shield MP .40. It gets hot in this area, 115 today. I have worn it up to 12 hours a day driving 120 miles very comfortably. It conceals your firearm very well under a dress shirt, vest or jacket. I prefer a jacket or vest which is more is more accessible but here the heat decides. Give them a try. Good Luck. They are affordable and guaranteed.

I use a DeSantis Intruder IWB holster. Great holster that won't pull loose from your belt.
