Brother in Law has an M&P 9. The trigger is horrible. I am a Glock guy and do trigger jobs on Glocks to get a nice pull; well as nice as one can get for a polymer striker fired pistol. I normally replace a few springs, the connector and do a polish job on various parts. His hands were too small for a Glock so he went with the M&P which fit him better. Would you recommend the apex kits or something which you feel is better. This could be a nice pistol for him if I could smooth out the trigger and reduce the pull weight.

Apex triggers, sears and spring kits are the bomb. I've installed a fair number of them and every owner has been thrilled with the end product.

I've owned three Apex'd M&Ps myself, all with the duty/carry bits from Apex. The current generation M&Ps have much better triggers than those of yesteryear but the Apex kits still make a noticeable and useful improvement.

Define horrible.... as that encompasses a lot of symptoms.

If it's rough or gritty, the same medicine applies to M&P's and Glocks, smooth out the trigger bar "ear" that depresses the striker block plunger. Not only does that get rid of the rough feeling that comes with the tool marks dragging over the edge of the striker plunger, it reduces the amount of effort needed in the trigger pull, not having to over come the resistance the roughness added.

I prefer the Glock style trigger over the 2 piece articulated one on an M&P, since I'm used to that style from having a G22. I replaced the trigger on my full size M&P 9 with the Apex 100-025 trigger, couldn't be happier.

My M&P 9 is of recent manufacture, so it has a much better trigger than the earlier ones... it's my understanding that it is attributed to S&W going to the Performance Center sear in the regular production guns.

I'd do the smoothing first and replace the trigger, then go from there. I bought my M&P 9 after my M&P 45 and did not feel that it needed the action kit like the M&P 45 did.

In addition to the trigger bar smoothing and Apex trigger, I also installed the Apex DCAEK (Duty Carry Action Enhancement Kit) and could be happier with it.

The trigger on his gun is both rough/gritty and has a very heavy pull. I too prefer the Glock over the M&P and do a trigger job on all of my Glocks and 1911's that need them. I also do trigger work on CZ's. I've never bothered with an M&P because I just do not prefer them. I'm a S&W revolver admirer but their semi autos not so much. Anyway it sounds like you are doing a similar type of parts polishing/smoothing that I do on the Glocks (safety plunger, trigger bar, connector). I will check out the aforementioned parts/kits you and others have mentioned to improve his trigger. He is just learning to shoot and the ****** trigger is not enhancing the experience. It is a newer gun that was purchased @ 3 months ago from an online vendor; who knows maybe he just got one with a rough trigger. Thanks for the responses.

All Apex Kits are well worth the money IMO! I've got the FSS Kit in my .40 Pro Series. It makes that gun feel close to a 1911 type trigger.

I've got a J Frame Apex Spring Kit in each of my two j frames revolvers, one of which I just put in this morning. I believe in the Apex line and they have really good customer service as well! I don't think you can go wrong with any of their products! Hope this helps!

Someone said it but I will say it again. Apex trigger kits are the bomb. I put the Apex FSS in my M&P 5" Pro and it is now my most accurate handgun. I also put their sear and ultimate striker block in the Shield and it's night and day compared to what it was. in your situation it is a no-brainer. Regards, Elliot45

I put the FSS and aluminum trigger kit in my FS 9 and absolutely love it. Smooth trigger pull, short reset, what's not to like?

I put Apex parts in my M&P 15 and I'm glad I did. The original trigger was designed by lawyers.
