Default Optical Sight on Shield

I will be getting a Shield soon and wondering if anyone has put an optical sight (red dot) on this pistol? How is it mounted? Thanks

I have a shield. It's not meant for longer range work. You should be able to hit what your shooting at within 10yds with the sights on this gun.

Actually you should be able to hit center of mass reliably at 25 yards if you put in a bit of practice. You probably won't consistently hit golf balls at 25 yards but you will be able to do more than adequate self defense work with it. Especially with the 45 Shield

Sheild isn't really ment for optics and there isn't a need for them on this type of gun. However, they are mounted by milling out a portion of the slide in front of the rear sights. The optic will sit in that cut out portion. Typically this will mean that you'll need to change your regular sights because even though the optic sits lower it's base is still about on the same level as the sights.

Here is an example

You can also buy an adapter that will fit into the cut out of your rear sight but that means you won't have a rear sight.

The Sheild is ment to be an easily concealed, small and light gun. Where as the optic is ment more for full size guns where distance and speed is important. Many of these are competition guns but it can be used on full size and compact carry guns. The Sheild is a sub compact ment for close distances although they can and will shoot center mass at 25 yards.

Also not all optics are created equal

I have a red dot on a Glock 30 and an M&P9 compact, I would have thought the Shield too narrow for a red dot, then I saw that it is offered: SUAREZ RED DOT SIGHT PACKAGE FOR S&W SHIELD from onesourcetactical.

Center mass. The center of the body. Not necessarily the perfect center but where all the vitals are. Heart, lungs.

This doesn't mean the gun will shoot 6 or 7 inches. It just means it can be consistent at shooting center. It means you can hit vitals from a distance

This is me shooting center mass from 20 yards
