Default Shield 9 SKU 10035 vs. 10038, and trigger weight

Hi everyone, new to the forum here. I have been carrying a Glock for ages and today at a show I bought a Shield 9mm.

When I got it home I thought the trigger felt a little on the heavy side but at first thought it was just due to lack of lube and break-in -- until I saw the label on the box as marked with "10# trigger." So I looked up the SKU online, 10038, and it's the Mass-compliant version! I am a resident of PA and purchased the pistol here, and would much prefer the standard ~6.5 trigger. I believe SKU 10035 is the pistol I was after, but I was just too dumb to realize it in the heat of the moment.

Basically I have 2 questions:
1- Is the trigger weight the ONLY difference between 10035 and 10038 (Mass Compliant)? That's the only difference I can see from looking at the specs... everything else seems the same. No mag disconnect safety; no thumb safety; same capacity mags, etc.

2- Is it a simple job to "convert" this to the standard spring weight? I've got experience fully disassembling Glocks (including all the tiny parts in the slide), so mechanical skills are fine. I am just hoping it's just a matter of a few dollars to swap a spring or two. Is this possible, or more work than it's worth?

I'm really kicking myself here, and hopefully it's an easy fix.

Thank you!

If all you're trying to do is lighten up the MA trigger, give Randy a call at Apex, tell him your story, and he can probably get you the springs you need. I like their trigger kits but I don't think that's what you are after.

I would call S&W. I suspect that all you need is a standard trigger spring but who knows. They may have a different striker block spring too. Or some other parts could be different so hopefully they can give you the straight info.

Hey guys, thanks again for all the advice. I want to post an update that on Monday S&W did follow up with my online query and sent me the following:

"Regardless of the state in which you reside, we unfortunately cannot change compliant features of our firearms as the feature set will no longer match the sku of the firearm which is registered with the ATF. This also means we cannot send you the parts to make these alterations. We apologize for this inconvenience. You will need to work this out with the dealer."

So, I'm very thankful I was able to work with the dealer. I've got the standard-trigger model now (SKU 10035) which I bought from another dealer at the show and it's much better.
