M&P take down lever.
The take down levers on two of my three M&P'S will not stay in place when I am trying to field strip my guns. They will stay in place if I push up on the recoil spring guide rod. That just doesn't seem right to me. Any thoughts would be helpful.

Some do, some don't. I have adopted a right hand hold with my thumb against the lever to make it behave while I remove the slide with my left hand. That way, I avoid the problem. Don't know of any mechanical cure.

I have 3 M&P's, two 9c's & a 45c. The 45 will stay down by itself, the 9's I hold the lever with my thumb. Never thought of it as a problem or a big deal.
When re-assembling one 9 will retract the lever when the slide is reinstalled, the other two I push back up manually...still not a big deal.
Never have had a malfunction with any of them, and the 9c's are going on 10 years old.

My 9mm full-size requires that I hold it. I don't mind.

Thanks, I have been able to make it work but was wondering if there was a fix.

Easy Fix - Don't Put Up With It!
This is a recurring discussion about this common problem. Pull out the takedown lever and find the nub of metal protruding from the small flat on the drum. The small flat is oriented down when the pistol is assembled, but points to the front and is the rear support for the RSA when the takedown lever is rotated down. Grind it off with a light touch of a Dremel. You will cut through the coating and expose the base metal, but don't worry. It is a stainless alloy and won't rust. The nub is the metal-injection-molding sprue and prevents the RSA from resting correctly on the takedown lever drum when rotated. Some careless subcontractor or S&W finisher didn't grind it off before painting and S&W deemed it unimportant. No telling how many they have gotten back for this simple fix. This careless QC error makes disassembly a three handed sleight of hand, fumbling exercise instead of the slick and easy process it is with this fixed. It need not be pretty. Just make sure that small flat is smooth.

I had the same issue with my 9c look at the flat side of the take down lever if you see a notch there just file it down until it gets as flat as you can that solved the issue for me. There are some you tube videos about it.
