Yes, it can be adjusted by a non professional (according to the manual but not the rear, without possibly voiding the warranty) and S&W will ask if you tried before emailing you a return label to have it moved under warranty. Mine was ridiculously off center out of the box and my brass punches wouldn't touch it, I mangled up two punches trying to get it to budge.
After talking with S&W about it an being told you're doing all the right things, they are really tough and getting a turn around time of 2.5+ weeks, I decided to give it one more attempt. So back into the vice but knowing the punches wouldn't work, I had a 3/4" x 1.5" x 12" piece of hardwood trim laying around from another project so deciding it shouldn't mar anything up gave it a try and whacked the snot out of it with that and finally got it to move. After the initial movement, fine tuning wasn't too bad. Use lots of lubricant, have rubber jaw covers or something to protect the slide in the vice and best of luck, you're going to need it! lol
