Default Have anyone else had this problem, with the Shield 45?

Have anyone else had this problem, with the Shield 45? I have run approx. 600 rounds thru my shield 45 and after a trip to the range, I was cleaning it, and found that the recoil spring assembly just barely extend long enough to engage the barrel lug, and upon Disassembly, the recoil spring assembly fall out when the slide is removed (every time). Call S&W , told them the problem(he would not say that he knew of the problem-but he did send me a per-pay mailing sticker.

Had a different problem but with the recoil spring as well, when I went to clean the gun after a range outing the recoil spring came apart the front rivet popped out and the springs went flying. I managed with the help of a mallet to get the spring back together but don't feel comfortable carrying the shield until I hear back from Smith. Shield is only 2 weeks old and maybe 200 rnds through it.

Mine is new NTS model and I noticed that the spring will just fall out when you try to reassemble it and you don't have to compress it at all to reinsert it in the slide and place it against the barrel lug.

Mine is "loose" compared to a 9MM... but it doesn't fall out from under the barrel. Seems to work fine and positions on reassembly easier than my former Shield which was a little bit finicky on the exact position.

Mine will just fall out and I have to hold it upon putting it back together. Function checks just fine and I have yet to shoot it as mentioned above.

Brand new 45 Shield, bought this morning RSA fell apart upon first disassembly, 0 rounds thru it. Older 40 Shield has been flawless

Does anyone know if the RSA from a 9/40 will fit and work in the 45 ?

I don't think they are interchangeable. Have S&W send you a shiny new one and all should be well with the world.

By the way.... I don't recall a single thread about RSA failures or major problems on the .45 Shield. You should get a lotto ticket right away!

This is disappointing. The recoil spring should not just fall out. It doesn't need a ton of pressure to hold it together, but it shouldn't fall out.

...and this is why I struggle with weapons other than Glocks.
