Happy 4th to all! Question I have a m&p 9 pro (1100 rds +-) and today had 12 rds that didn't fire 6 of those did fire in a Ruger sr9c the other 6 were complete dude. Could I have a problem with the pistol? If so how do I fix it? Thanks Gunny
What brand of ammo was it? If handloads, what primer are you using. This info would help. The fact you had 6 that wouldn't fire at all leads me to believe this to be an ammo problem.
I would definitely remove the striker and clean it along with the striker channel. Make sure it is completely clean with no debris in the channel and do not lube it. The striker should be bone dry. I doubt this is the problem but after 1k rounds it should be done anyway plus it's really easy to do.
Sounds like you have a ammo problem seeing as how 6 didn't fire in another pistol too. But, there's nothing wrong with cleaning that striker channel like Ballistic147 suggested.
I'm a bit anal about that striker channel myself, I clean mine ever time I clean the gun. Once had a gun shut down due to brass shavings clogging up the striker.
Cleaning your striker is definitely the first thing you should do. After the striker is removed, I recommend spraying Gun Scrubber (or similar product) in to the rear of the slide letting the fluid exit from the firing pin hole. Don't mess around with the striker too much. Just make sure it is clean and dry before reassembly. A dirty striker channel can be very troublesome if you carry for self-defense and live in a cold weather area. The colder temperatures can coagulate the fluid and debris around the striker and cause your weapon to not fire at all.
Along the lines of ammo: I have seen more light hits/fail-to-fire from Winchester FMJ ammo more than any other.
I've had the same problem. Light strikes. Had a competition barrel installed along with an Apex trigger group. Light strikes. Had the whole gun brought to stock and still had the same problem. Everything mentioned/suggested was tried. Too bad - it was my favorite gun...
