I love my Glock 23 but

Bought a S&W shield 45 that I like better.
I like the capacity of the 23, but like the way the S&W feels & angle/points better, more like my Colt 1911 that I stupidly sold.
So.. if I have .380, 357, 40 & 45, love 45, am thinking of a 45 S&W to replace the G23......maybe??
Suggestions appreciated.

Can't call yourself a gun guy until you own a 1911. Go get another.
If that's out of budget range, I would recommend a full sized M&P 45.

I carried a G23C on duty for years. It is very capable gun based on a 40 year old design. Unfortunately a design that feels about as good in the hand as a chunk of wood. I have said for a long time now that if S&W would just make a mid-sized M&P to compliment the Shield series they would have the top 2 selling handguns in America instead of just the top 1. That being said, I don't sell guns unless I have duplicates or absolutely HATE it and will never cycle back in love with it. Too many regrets over my gun owning life span. I say keep the Glock, buy the Shield and start saving for your next gun.

I think you may find the Shield 45 with it's slimmer profile and less weigh and far less recoil than any 40 will meet and exceed any CC expectations you may have.

I also have a Gen 4 model 23 with both the .40 and .357 Sig barrels. Excellent winter time CCW's but when lighter cloths are in order, I will be CCW'ing my Shield 45. My new Shield 45 will be replacing my Shield 9mm for those warm months CCW. (Not getting rid of it, just replacing it)
Not being a LEO or in a high risk environment, 6 +1 is sufficient for me. My load of choice are Hornady Critical Duty 220 grain +P's which deliver more than enough oomph, especially at CCW distances.

I know this is a S&W and I do like my shield. But other than that Glock is better than any other polymer ​pistol out there. Most reliable and simple pistol to use.

I carried the Gen II Glock 23 as my issued duty weapon until my retirement in '97, never liked it. As others said it felt like a chunk of wood in my hand. My Gen III Glock 17 fits me like a glove (big hands) and I can shoot it better than the older G23. Since I'm no longer required to go in harm's way (much too old anyway) the 9MM suits me fine.

I am sorry, I was unclear, I have the S&W shield 45 & love it, will never sell it. I just don't know whether I might like a S&W compact 45 better than the Gen4 23.

I've never fired the 45c, but have carried and put a lot of rounds thru a 45FS, and also carried G23s for several years. First of all, the 23 is an excellent, all-round carry gun if you want a 40 that fits a number of scenarios. I know that shooters seem to prefer the handling and recoil of the larger 22, but the 23 just carries better. Once you get used to the differences in shooting characteristics of the 23, it is just as fast handling and accurate as the larger pistols. I would give the 45c a look if you want a G23/Commander-sized carry gun. Being a bit heavier than the 45 Shield, it should shoot a little more comfortably.

Sorry but "it" does not have better sights, Weight reduction, concealment profile, reduced recoil or trigger than many on the market. And yes many glocks have feeding problems....and is in no way
better than any other polymer ​pistol out there.....IMHO.....

Not a fan of single stack guns. Not enough grip. I find the Glock 19/23 to be the perfect grip when it comes to thickness and angle. There are others that have just as good a grip but you have to buy different panels.

Interesting. They're the same frame. One is shorter but thickness is the same.

Yes. Yes you would. Okay I do not know that but in your shoes I know I would. The M&P45C is very similar in size to the G23 and has a much more ergonomic grip. Capacity is lower but you can always used the larger capacity mags too.

dben002 - I beg to differ, the Glock has better sights IMHO for many people. Especially older people due to the large, easy to aquire white "U" rear and white front dot. G23's are usually pretty good with recoil, as good as the M&P's and the triggers are better "out of the box". As for feeding issues, I have quite a few Glock pistols and have had minimal issues (operator error). While I do like my Shield 9mm, M&P FS9mm, and M&P 22 compact very much I do agree with earlier post regarding the Glock being one of the best polymer guns being produced.

My Shield has had a few feeding issues and does tend to "guppy bulge" the cases a bit with hotter rounds but so do earlier Glocks. While the stock trigger is not bad by any means, I did have to go with an Apex to get an acceptable (to me) trigger. I also changed the sights to TFX Pro's to get a better sight picture for my old eyes. It is all relative to the user - each likes something a little different and one gun does not "fit all". IMHO the M&P series are very good pistols and I carry one daily.

OP - I would keep the Glock, then go with the M&P 45c which should be a nice fit for you since you like the Shield 45. I would also look for a nice 1911 but don't go too cheap. I would at least go with a Ruger 1911 LWT Commander or if you can save a little, go for a Springfield Range Officer or Kimber Commander size. Or, you could always go 1911 style but chambered for 9mm, the EMP4 is a great shooter... :-)
