newbie question....so by the time I decided to call the gun shop they were closed. I have decided to get me a s/w m&p45, but cannot find anywhere what exactly is in the box. 1,2 or 3 magazines, does it come in the blue case I see in pics or do I need to buy separately?

kenny, the ones I've seen that come in the blue hard case only come with 2 magazines, 2 extra backstraps, and of course, papers and cable lock, fired case and chamber flag. Those sell in my area for $500.
The ones that come in the larger black case have the different size backstraps, 3 magazines, holster, magazine pouch, magazine loader, papers and the required safety stuff ( lock, flag, fired case, etc).
Those sell here for $649.
I was selling my Springfield XDm and ended up keeping the mag pouch and mag loader from the XDm, as I liked them better than the BladeTech mag pouch and Uplula loader that came with the M&P.

My new M&P Shield came in a cardboard box with 2 mags, a gun lock, a red plastic chamber empty thingy and instructions. I bought my plastic box from amazon the next day.

My 40 compact came in a blue case with two mags, back straps, and a lock. my Shield 45 came in a cardboard box with two mags (a 6rd and a 7rd) and a lock. I was disappointed it didn't come in a blue hard case

A bit off topic but I was really surprised to learn that Les Baer ships his $3000-4000 beauties in a cardboard box. And not that nice of one either.

I went to local gun shop today, well
as local as you can get and be out of crook county Illinois :-) paid for my full size m/p 45, it comes with the blue plastic case, 2 magazines, 2 back straps, the chamber thingamabob and a lock. They only had a 9mm in stock so the gal ordered it, will be in hand friday. Thanks

Yep, blue box, 2 mags, 2 extra grip inserts, manual, lock, fired case and chamber flag. As an aside, my M&P 45 is dark earth color. I bought a large black insert on Ebay ($8) to contrast with that color. Also, on Ebay, I bought an extra 10 round mag made by S&W ($30). A desantis Speed Scabbard and double mag pouch in tan leather.

Mine is black, I was thinking on doing the same with the back insert only in dark earth, I like that contrast!
