Default M&P9 for USPSA?

I'm planning to start competing in USPSA events, and I'm considering the M&P 9 just for this purpose. I admit I'm more of a revolver guy, but in order to keep up I'll use a semi. Any advise? I'd also consider a 40, but I don't want to go any higher.

For anyone beginning USPSA (or IDPA ) I always advise that any of the polymer pistols, M&P, Glock, SIG, XD will serve you fine. One just needs to find the gun that “fits” them best, in terms of ergonomics, cost, recoil, trigger, other attributes etc.

I have all of the brands I mention above & each is fine. For me my preference is the sig 320 & M&P. The ergonomics fit me best and being retired military I qualify for the discounted price for both brands. My wife has claimed my M&P for her use during our IDPA matches.

As for caliber, recommend you strongly consider shooting 9mm minor. Greatly simplifies your preparation as well as minimizes recoil when compared to the 40.

Another consideration is cost of magazines- you’ll likely need 6 to be competitive as well as compensate for any mag malfunction during a match.

Good luck- let us know your decision & how you do at your first match
