Default M&P Shield .40 Performance Center Problem

Hello everyone, this is my first post at the S&W forum. I am having a problem with the takedown lever on my M&P Shield .40 Performance Center. The problem is that the takedown lever will rotate even when the slide is fully closed as long as the trigger is pulled. I did verify that the takedown lever is fully seated in the block and it appears to still have the little tab on the edge that is supposed to keep it from rotating. Has anyone seen this before? Also, I was wondering what would be a reasonable turnaround time for a repair on this model gun? I know Ruger turned around a pistol in 3-weeks, I'm hoping that it won't take too long.

Here is a video of the issue that I am having

Thanks,

I've never messed with one but that doesn't seem right to me.

I hadn't tried it until someone else posted here or another forum or FB that his does it and that's the way he field strips his now. After he posted that I took a look at mine and it will do the same thing. However, I don't do it that way since the takedown lever does scrape across the slide and would most likely cause a scratch before too long. Mine is not a PC Shield.

you are not supposed to be doing what you did in the video---stop doing that. there is nothing wrong with your gun except-------------doing what you did in the video.

I know that its not supposed to be done that way, the fact it does it is the concern that I have. I'm gonna call S&W in the morning and ask them if there is a problem with the gun. I believe that the takedown should not turn unless the slide is locked back. That's why I was shocked when it happened when I was wiping the gun down with a silicone cloth.

That makes me feel a little better. I agree, I am not going to do it that way, other than the one time for the video to show what was going on.

Update! I sent the gun back to Smith & Wesson and 4-weeks to the day later, the gun was back in my possession. They fixed the issue! They replaced the slide with a new slide, and now the takedown lever works as expected and only rotates when the slide is locked back.
