Default JPoint Circle Dot

Anyone have any experience with this red dot? Thinking of installing this one on my 9mm CORE.

JP Rifles

I am thinking that this might be the best of both worlds. You get the big circle for quick close up shots (speed) and the small 1 MOA dot in the center for accurate shots. Or is this just a jack of all trades master of none?

Anyone have any experience with it?

First, I don't have experience with that particular MRDS. Here are my thoughts. If you have co-witness BUIS then the 65 MOA ring may be unnecessary. That's a 15" circle at 25 yards (about). If you have no BUIS to help you get on target that ring may be of use. If you've never shot a pistol with an MRDS, know there is a learning curve to it. Drawing and lining up the red dot on target takes some practice. I never really mastered it. I now have a Burris FFIII 8 MOA on my CORE and it is so much easier/faster to get on target. I use my CORE for local action steel matches and shoot no farther than 25-30 yards. The 8 MOA dot (covers 2" at 25 yards) is perfect for my needs. Hope this helps.

While I have never used this sight, something to consider is found in the description on their website.

"The is optimized for rifle and shotgun mounting and may not be a good fit for pistol use depending on your shooting style. Many pistol shooters will find that the outer circle is too large to be useful when held at arm's length."

But maybe someone with experience with it will chime in.

I've got a 3 MOA dot JPoint on my model 986 revolver. Works fine.

I see there's a note on the web sight indicating the circle/dot model may not be the best choice for a handgun. They say the circle may be too big to be useful.

As far as the optic itself, I've had mine for about nine months and it's been flawless. No operational issues and it holds zero just fine. I'd buy another. In fact, I'm going to buy another one for my Kimber 1911.

OPNOTE: If you have any sort of vision issues with conventional sights, especially astigmatism in your dominant eye, make the effort to personally try a red dot sight before committing large amounts of cash. In store is fine, but be very critical about what you see. Also note that in addition to the sight, you will have to buy a dedicated mount...plan on another $30 to $60 depending. Verify the availability of a mount suitable for your application before purchase.

I just grabbed my AR w/ an Eotech sight which has an almost identical retical. Same 1 and 65 MOA diameters. I held it normally and found something outside the window that filled the 65 circle. Then I held it out at arms like it would be on a pistol. I also pulled in as close as possible. As best as I can tell the size of the circle doesn't change w/ respect to the size of object that filled it no matter where I position the sight.

I recently got the jpoint 8moa installed on a 9mm shield.Only one range trip so far.But it worked real well for three shooters.Including ten yr old grandson. He really got a kick out of shooting plates with it.

The Eotech is a nice optic. This is why I was curious about the Circle Dot style. While maybe not made specifically for handguns, it may be a great option.
