Default 45 sheild

I just scored a M&P Sheild 45 on gunbroker. It wasn't on my radar until I read the review on guns.com. How do you guys like them. I hope it will go well with the ported 9mm I just picked up 3 weeks ago

Congrats on your purchase! I'm quite happy with mine. I like the improved ergonomics and trigger over the 9mm version, and while it's a little muzzle light, it's not at all punishing to shoot. I was placing all of my shots in the "kill zone" of an anatomical silhouette right out of the box; that's how nicely the .45 Shield handles.

The grip stippling may be a mite too aggressive for some, but judicious wet sanding (or, in my case, a once-over with the glazed side of a piece of old tile) seems to make it "just right."

I like it very much. Much better feel, recoil management, capacity than my Glock 36. I had my mind made up on the Shield but tried an XDs before buying it to compare. I still liked the Shield better.

Don't be surprised if that ported 9mm Shield ends up collecting dust in a back corner of your gun safe. In many ways the .45acp Shield is pick of the Shield litter.

I like the 9mm but love the 45. It is one of those handguns you pickup, hold and shoot; then say to your self, "this one feels just right".

I have the Shield 9 and .40 so my wife thought the .45 would be a nice addition, bless her heart. The local dealer had them for $399.

I love my Shields and usually carry the .40 everyday. I was not real happy with the aggressive texture on the new .45. After reading some comments I ordered the Hogue slip on grips. I bought two sets and both ripped even after I warmed them and used golf grip lubricant. I was ready to get out the sandpaper but someone suggested Talon Grips, $17.99.

I order the rubber based grips from Talon, free shipping and I had them in a few days. Read the instructions and installed them with no problem. Now I like my .45 Shield and no need for the sandpaper! Thanks for making them Talon!

My 9mm Shield will be collecting dust. My M&P 40 CORE, won't be getting much action either. After my fifth trip to the desert with the new Shield 45, this 45 ACP remains the most fun, and more accurate than the 9. At 28 yds blowing away colored water in 12 oz. bottles, it was having a much better time at it.

I have to have well over a thousand rounds through this now. Many varieties of factory ammo, round nose, hollow points and re-loads. Not a single malfunction (says a lot about my reloads too).

It's recoil isn't much more than the 9, and definitely softer than the 40, which I spent time with today. For a weapon that's only a wee bit larger than the 9 Shield, it's an amazing gun. A real keeper! And to think, that when I first heard about it, I couldn't care less. Didn't think I'd have interest in a 45 stuffed into a small package. I was wrong!

I liked my.45 so much, I bought the 9 and love that too, maybe more because the small size difference does matter

Best CCWs there are IMHO.

The best description i've heard of the shield .45 is when someone called it a "hand cannon". It definitely is a hand cannon, but its a compact, accurate, controllable, enjoyable to shoot hand cannon.

I find myself caring the Shield 45 more than my Shield 9 anymore. Really Like It.

I have in the past owned a 9C, FS45, 9 Shield and I have to admit though I now have another 9C that the 45 Shield is my favorite. Loaded with 160 grain +P Barnes TAC-XP it is a soft shooter for a 45 and pretty flat shooting.

the .40 Shield kicks harder than the .45 Shield because it is making more POWER.

There is little reason to choose the .45 ACP Shield over the 9mm version because both are ballistically identical, so why not choose MORE shots over large-diameter, low-pressure rounds that deliver little damage to humans.

Speaking just about the gun...S&W builds GREAT auto-pistols and the Shield is one! In any caliber I would expect near 100% functionality.
Yes really. I'll also go against everything else you just claimed. I read the charts, and have seen all the videos & pics, too. I reload both the 9's & 45's. My 40 is a full size M&P.

But...............since you apparently don't own a 45 Shield, and feel good about making excuses as to why not..........

P.S. --- The 9 isn't holding near the accuracy of the 45, out to 25 yards. Of course, if 5,7, & 10 is the 9's comfort zone, then so be it.

The .40 Shield "kicks harder" because it is a higher pressure round. That doesn't necessarily equate to "POWER". The .45 ACP is a heavier, larger diameter bullet that relies on kinetic energy rather than velocity to penetrate. If you think a .45 ACP delivers "little damage to humans", go stand in front of one.

Insofar as the superiority of the .40 goes, I've got a story for you. Before I retired I got a call from a sheriff's office detective who had been present at a number of post mortem examinations of suspects shot by my department. We carried 9mm 124gr. +P Gold Dot JHP. His words,"Lt., what is that ammunition you guys use? I've been present for most of the posts on your OIS's, and it sure does more damage that the 180gr. .40 we carry in our Glocks."

The detective lobbied his department to allow them to add duty guns in 9mm using the Gold Dot as a result. He must have presented his factual findings based on his personal observations, because the department added the caliber and round to the list of available duty weapons/ammo.

So, in conclusion, I'd say the "snappiness" of the .40 doesn't necessarily make it better than .45 ACP or 9mm.

I just got my Shield 45 on Monday. My wife and I went out to the S.O. Range and put 300 rds through it. I really like it, a lot. I do not find the grips too harsh, in fact I really like the control they provide while maintaining a narrow profile. On the subject of ammo, I put 200 rds of American Eagle 230 FMJ, 20 rds of Federal 165 gr HS and 50 rds of Double Tap 200 gr JHP rated 1100 fps from a 5 inch bbl. Those were definitely a lot hotter than all the rest but shot very well and grouped real good. This is now my off duty carry of choice. Did I mention I really like this 45?
