Default slide swap on Shield

I am considering having the Slide on my Shield milled for a reflex sight. Since this is my EDC, I don't want to be without it, for 4-6 weeks (or whatever it takes) I am thinking of buying another Shield and sending the Slide to be milled and still have an EDC, and then probably selling the extra gun afterwards.

The question is, are there matching serial numbers on Slides and frames, or just the frame has a serial number?

Serial number is on frame only.

Good plan. Having a back up Shield if you carry one often is a good idea. Keep it.

I sent my Shield slide off two weeks ago. I thought about buying another as you suggested, but I do have another small gun I can carry until the slide comes back. Especially in winter, my EDC is a full size M&P. The smaller gun is usually only for NPE, deep concealment.

Thanks, I couldn't find one anywhere on the slide, but I wasn't sure if it was buried somewhere.

I just fit a Burris FF2 to my S&W M&P 40 Shield. I found that a Burris "KI-BO" 410323 Kimber Standard/Target/Bomar mount fits the contour of the Shield very nicely. I did modify the dovetail of a Burris 410336 "Smith & Wesson M&P" mount to fit the tab into the slot on the KI-BO.

I have more images if you want to see them.

Wow. How well do those dovetail mounts work as far as getting the red dot down low? I know i've read most everywhere that they should go as low as possible into the slide.

Default Measurements comparing CORE and Shield

I measured height from the top of the slide to the bottom edge of the reflex sight window on my CORE and Shield.
The CORE has a FF3 mounted and the Shield has a FF2.
The difference is .14 inches ... that is to say ... the Shield mount is .14 inches taller than the CORE.
