Default Trigger on PC 9mm shield vs. std 9 shield vs. apex 9 shield?

Has anyone measured the trigger pull is all three configurations?

Maybe I should have added this to my other thread on the legality of apex trigger.

But if the factory Performance center trigger is as light/smooth as a standard shield with the duty kit installed. Then it would seem like the conversion is a non issue.

Unless S&W is not marketing the PC version as a self defense gun but rather a sport or target model.

Anyone have some insightful knowledge on this?

The difference on the legality stand point is the apex is aftermarket and is physically changing the gun from the way it left the factory and the PC trigger is factory. This is where lawyers would have an issue with it if they were to make a stink of it. If a good shooting I don't see an issue, would be more inclined to come up in a civil suit.

I have a standard shield with stock trigger, it smoothed out or broke in after 5-600 rounds. I see no need for the apex kit on this/my carry pistol. If it was going to be a range gun I would be all over the apex kit. I have some apex parts in my PC 9L M&P.

I have APEX stuff in my full size M&P's but the trigger on my PC Shield felt so awesome I'm leaving it 100% stock.

My Shield 45 has a better stock trigger than the Shield 9. On the Shield 9 the only thing I did to it was to change out the stock sear and install the Apex hard tactical sear. This made a world of a difference.

Regular shield before apex DCAEK 8lb after 6lb it is not only about the trigger pull, the duty carry kit took care of the grittiness on my factory trigger.

I have the Apex DCAEK on my .40C and just bought the wife a Performance Shield 9mm. Honestly the trigger on the sheild is just about as good as my Apex .40.

Not really answering my questions.

I would like hard factual numbers of measured trigger pull weights of the standard, performance center, and Apex duty carry modification.

I have read the apex is supposed to lower the weight by about 2 lbs. o have also read that the factory std is about 5.5 lbs. I have not read what the trigger pull weight is on average for the performance center.

These above are all specs read from paper. What is the real world measured weights of each of these?

No, I do not have a trigger pull gauge. Just a 4" group at 35ft and 2" group at 15ft with my PC shield and comparing it with my other M&P's with apex parts. If you are concerned about the liability with touching the weapon then you shouldn't even consider apex stuff and get the PC. Like myself and someone else said they are good enough that modifying isn't necessary. (although some people desire a trigger with an oz level of pull) To be honest if I knew the pro series/PC stuff was so good I would have saved up and not purchased my regular M&P's then modified them.

Maybe I'm missing something and as one with much to learn, no disrespect meant here. But is weight that important when comparing triggers vs their actual feel and what one likes/is good with?
At a recent range trip with my son in law i took my stock full size MP9 and my PC Shield which have triggers a world apart though i can do well on either. He had his 9 (not sure brand) with a full Apex kit he put in.
We ended up with 3 totally different trigger feels which affected us when shooting the other's guns. I had no clue on what each would pull on a scale and frankly wouldnt care. The feel for me is what is important.
So guess my question, is weight/pull what actually dictates feel or does the geometry and trigger component design affect it as much. Just seems trigger weight is like Hp on a car in discussions, important to the performance yet just a part in the overall process.

According to my Lyman digital trigger gauge, my Shield 9 with Apex Duty/Carry kit has average 6# trigger pull. My factory stock Shield 45 also has 6#. And my M&P 9C with Apex FSS kit and trigger shoe measures 4.5#.

BTW, I have thumb safeties on all of these.

I already own a std 9mm shield. I want nothing to do with the ported barrel of the PC version. Some people like ported barrels. I do not. I did like the trigger on the PC version.

I agree feel is important with a trigger. As is smoothness and reset etc.

But for a carry gun there is a "too light" of a trigger pull. And it seems like the consensus is anything much below about 5 lbs is the general threshold. If the standard stock trigger on the 9mm is 6 lbs and the Apex as per their website claims to lower the pull by 2 lbs, that would be getting into the top light of pull area for a carry self defense gun. On the other hand, what company sales websites claim and even real life factory pull weights may vary from real world measured weights.

The facts above in previous post having a apex kit and 6 lbs would indicate some sales specs are off. As the apex finished mod is the same as the published supposed factory spec pull weight. So either the original OEM pull weight was substantially above 6lbs, or the apex kit doesn't lower the weight much, or some "fibbing" on both accounts.

I had an early Shield 9. I bought it used. The trigger was just over 7lbs stock, then just under 5.5 lbs after the Apex duty/carry kit.

Somewhere in here is my pull numbers on a CORE, and a FS. They were pretty much stupid pulls...around 6 something.
Both got Apex'ed. Now they are both around 3.5 to 3.7.

My 9c is about 5' ish. Still too much.
Needs to be in the mid to low 3# area.
It will get Apex'ed as soon as I can.

OEM M&P triggers are the suck. The rest of the sidearm is great.
Much better than a Glock

Two standard Shield 9's I bought more than 18 months ago had factory triggers over 8 pounds (Lyman gauge) that were very gritty. They were difficult to shoot accurately and consistently.

I believe in the past year and half S&W has paid more attention to delivering in spec triggers on new guns. I have felt two that were much smoother and felt like they were in the advertised 6-6.5# range.

I replaced both Shield triggers with Apex packages, then "tuned" the triggers with springs to be about 5 lbs. measured. I also wanted other benefits of the Apex parts, including a different beginning of the stroke, shorter stroke and reset, more positive reset. It was not just about the trigger pull weight.

I have not shot a PC Shield, but I understand S&W works on the fire control system to actually deliver what they promise--a smooth 5-5.5# trigger. However, I don't believe it has some of the other benefits of the Apex kits.

Some folks differentiate between a lighter target trigger and a heavier "duty" or concealed carry trigger. Even S&W at times seems to portray their lighter PC triggers for target shooting without mentioning self defense as a use of the PC gun. A lighter, shorter pull trigger, within reason, will disturb sight alignment less. Length of pull vs. weight, such as on a DAO revolver, will often provide additional "safety" with lighter pulls.

Nonetheless, the new Full Size V2 is supposed to have a PC trigger that is lighter than the V1 (Which was spec'd at ~5.5#, but almost never was), with other better qualities.

Having very different trigger pulls on numerous guns one uses may cause confusion and inconsistency. If one has a "range" gun with a shorter, lighter pull, and a similar/same gun with a heavier, longer trigger pull, accuracy between the two guns could be noticeably different. It takes a lot of practice and good memory to switch between very different pulls and shoot well, but it can be done.

My M&P PC shield 40 trigger pull is very smooth, a pleasure to shoot. This is for self defense, I want it firm but very smooth. It is.

This has been my experience as well. Stock trigger was close to 8lbs. After Apex upgrade consistently 5.5lbs.

I measured my Shield with Apex and polishing. 4lbs 10oz avg. I measured new PC Shield at 4lbs 12oz avg. Keep in mind measurements can vary a few ounces each time you measure. My stock Shield before Apex was ABOUT 7lbs 8oz.......YMMV
