Bodyguard 380 ammo
In doing a bunch of research and purchasing a bodyguard 380 I had ammo information questions about the light strikes some had spoken of. Being a cowboy sass shooter and using nothing but federal primers in our spring kit revolvers I figured the first thing to do was to address the self defense ammo just like we do in sass. So I made the call to federal and sure enough in the pistol ammo (American eagle) and (hydrashock) they use the same soft #100 pistol primers. With these primers based on the cowboy experience your bodyguard should not have light strike issues. Now if Russian ammo is what you want to shoot you may have issues, but for self defense it may be best to know our individual weapons and their tendencies. A little research can save your life.

I don't do Russian, steel or aluminum case round. For practice I like Remington FMJ for SD last year I used Hornady, I shot those off after a year and switched to Hydashock.

thanks for this info...I use hydrashock exclusively for carry in 9mm and .380 [Bodyguard]. I have had problems only with Fiocchi in the .380 Bodyguard [light strike]. No problem with Fiocchi in 9mm.
I'm not a reloader, but did some reloading in younger years.
My bodyguard is in front left pocket [Remora holster] or in a Wright owb holster every day. I have total confidence in BG.

Only 380 target ammo issue for me has been Perfecta causing FTF. The most reliable SD ammo for me has been Hydrashok, which is in my BG now. Gold Dot is in all of my 9MM's. Also, no issues with 9mm Perfecta.

second on the old school Federal hydrashoks 90 grain. Ammoquest said they were acceptable/ better than most...they penetrate a little more than the newer HST 99 grains. he said the HST didn't penetrate enough.

I just purchased one of these bodyguards. Do the new ones still have light strike issues? The salesman (retired cop) insisted I run 250 to 300rds before carrying to break it in and ensure it functions 100%. I haven't picked it up yet but am a little nervous now.

As far as light strikes go I've had none in 400 rounds with plenty of brands of ammo, but my self defense ammo is only with fed primers, they are the softest and won't give any issues, esp when needed

1,000 rounds in my M&P bodyguard circa 2014. Zero issues with ammo
but I stay away from cheapo foreign **** like wolf ammo. The stuff is so oily in the box, it would gum up your gun for sure. been using this stuff.

I use precision one. They are are not as well known but ballistics testing showed them to penetration better than Hornady.
