I didn't read if the 2.0 9mm barrel locks up differently than the original version. It should be like the Apex barrel lock up. That's the only reason I'd be interested.

I don't know. I have a CZ75 SP-01 Tactical and an M&P9 FS and I must say the M&P is a beauty.

yes, I know. I use a left hand release and my wife( and most of my friends who I let shoot my M&Ps) prefers the right hand release.

Academy listed them for $529 before they took the listing back down just before Christmas.

$449, I'd get one in a heartbeat. The poly frame has a full steel? insert making the 2.0 stiff the whole length. S&W has done a good job on the updated model.

Eh. I have no interest in the M&P. And being a new gun ill spend my $449 somewhere else and let others do the beta testing.

Also, reading on another forum, Apex said their accuracy is about the same as the M&P 1.0

Best price I could find. It is in FDE, which isn't my preference but haven't been able to find a 9mm full size 5" M2.0 available.

On her spokesperson video, Julie Golob says the mag release is ambi, which is different than reversible. I have not seen a good picture of the left side of the gun. Also, the mag release is now metal rather than polymer, perhaps adding to the supposition it is ambi.
EDIT: NOT AMBI--reversible as the original is.

I'm not sure what I think of it. I like the way it looks, but it doesn't look all that different from the old one. I'm a big fan of S&W. I love my Sport II, and I would like to add an SDVE to the collection someday. I shot an SD9VE and thought it was pretty good for the price. I'm really curious what the trigger is like on the M2.0. As of right now, though, I think I'm more of an XD fan. I got an XD Mod.2 a little over a month ago. I love the way it shoots. It's got a good trigger. I think I prefer the looks of the XD's over the M&P's, too. I know I'm probably in the minority saying that about the XD, but I was a bit underwhelmed when the M2.0 was revealed. I hope it turns out to be a great update.

I'm not seeing the 5" in anything but FDE and w/thumb safety. I'd like to have the longer barrel for sight radius, but not a fan of FDE and it seems like the safety might be in the way for me. Looking back, it doesn't seem like the 5", blue, no safety has ever been an option. Even in 1.0.

I don't normally like "colored" guns, but the FDE looks kinda neat.

GrabAGun has some in stock, but their price on the FDE is higher ($495). Black 9mm with 4.25" barrel is $449.

Question New button?

I like the looks of their desert sand color. Dumb question time though - what is the button located between and takedown lever and the slide stop? I have read a couple of blurbs on-line and no one has mentioned this. I don't think the original M&P's had the button ...

You don't think that APEX may have a reason to say that? They have barrels they need to sell. S&W says that the barrel and frame have been addressed to improve accuracy.. I don't doubt that..

Barrels don't interchange with the old M&P. So unless they already stock piled them I don't think there was any reason other than it being that. Besides they can claim whatever they want if it's false then no one is going to buy their barrels anyway. You think if they made a claim about Wilson Combat being inacu then all of a sudden they'll be selling barrels?

FWIW, I just bought one from GrabAGun which has the 9mm FDE ambi-safety model listed for $449, plus $8 shipping, no CC surcharge.

The .40 is $439!

I have seen them on Gunbroker now.

Are the 4.25" new 2.0 M&Ps the same size in barrel length as the old full size M&Ps?

Trying to decide if a new 2.0 is worth replacing my old M&P.

An actual honest-to-goodness slide release button?

I don't remember ever seeing such an animal - but I think you're right! I had also surmised - and I'm not too bright and no mechanical engineer - that it might be a decock button kinda-sorta like the old Walther P99 had on the slide ...

Funny thing is - I can't find any reference to it on the Google ... nor any indication as to whether or not the Shield will receive a similar treatment...

So what is the actual benefit of a full length guide rail? Some articles say it recoil less and others say it will improve accuracy. The m&p is already one of the lowest recoil in handguns on the market except maybe a heavy sp-01 or a rotating barrel px4.

Polymer guns flex in recoil, some more than others. To an extent, flexing reduces recoil, but too much flex gives a bad recoil impulse. And a polymer frame that flexes a lot has the potential for innaccuracy and faster wear.

Stiffening the front end has apparently helped slightly reduce recoil as shown in one of the new videos (American Guns?). A stiffer frame could also contribute to increased accuracy.

I made the mistake of resting the dust cover of my V1 FS M&P 9 on a sandbag for accuracy testing. The softness of the dust cover threw shots away from the bull and gave me large groups. I then rested the gun on the trigger guard and with a very solid bottom rear grip rest and produced on target small groups. Flex in the dust cover is not a great thing.

Default I like how a plastic gun.......

I like how a polymer gun is now improved by the addition of a steel skeleton. I thought steel pistols were supposed to be improved by the addition of polymer??? Make up your mind, already.

I doubt it. I don't see how it could make the slide stop drop, especially when pressing the stop downward (when adjusted) will do the job just fine.

I have not seen any discussion of it either, but my guess is it might be a guide/support for the rather long arm of the stop to keep it from flexing. I would not be surprised to find one on the opposite side of the gun too, but I have yet to find a photo of the right side.

I guess we'll know soon enough as the actual guns are purchased and examined.

Polymer makes the gun lighter for carry. It is much cheaper to manufacture. It is easier and cheaper to configure with grip panels and stippling. It is generally more comfortable to hang onto than metal.

None of these attributes equate to a gun with a polymer frame being better than an all metal gun. They are just different and have different uses.

Stiffening the polymer dust cover with a metal skeleton doesn't confuse me at all.

Default It's official the M2.0 is here!!

if they are just dust covers why do they need to be reinforced, perhaps the metal at front helps to keep the gun more balanced during the recoil? I think the smith polymer frame is very though at least compared with a glock frame those are really flimsy.

Looking at it, and I do not know because I have not seen a real good picture of it yet. But it looks like it has a LCI on top of the slide. If it does I will not be interested in one. Saw one video and nothing was said about it so I do not know if the black bar on top of the slide is an LCI or not Anyone know what that is ?

I have not seen any discussion of it either, but my guess is it might be a guide/support for the rather long arm of the stop to keep it from flexing. I would not be surprised to find one on the opposite side of the gun too, but I have yet to find a photo of the right side.

I guess we'll know soon enough as the actual guns are purchased and examined.
Pictures and spec's can be had here!

The devil is in the details. How much more accurate can the M&P get? It's already capable of being more accurate than anyone will be shooting them. Apex barrels increase accuracy marginally. The new M&P 2.0 will increase accuracy marginally. The New Apex 2.0 barrels coming to a dealer near you someday will increase the accuracy of the M&P 2.0 marginally. The rest is just market speak. Unless you have a poorly fitted barrel it's all just bragging rights.

The windows/cutouts, above the light rail are cosmetic, but the serial number is in one of them.

The slide stop on the right side, can be seen in the video and it looks just like the current slide stop, no bar next to it. S&W says the little bar in front of the slide stop, on the left, is part of the slide stop. Said "It helps to prevent the slide from going auto forward."

The increase steel frame is supposed to stiffen it up, and reduce felt recoil...the review video I saw the guy said it did just that...FWIW.

Looks like she misspoke. Right side of the pistol shows the mag release as reversible, not ambi.

Is there enough of an advantage to the 5" barrel (vs 4.25) to wait to see if black ones are made? Hopefully without thumb safety and LCI.

It may take a few weeks for manufacturing production to get 6-8 varieties of V2 options out there. Patience grasshopper. There will definitely be a black, 5", no safety, no mag disconnect version available.

It appears the LCi is on the 5" models only. Now that begs the question if they are going to come out with a V2 CORE. I don't think they will be able to have that LCI because it would interfere with the RDS cut. I bet they know more about all this than we, and over the next six months, especially at SHOT, we'll get "the rest of the story".

Simple solution...buy another gun for your wife and friends to use!

I am planning to give it some time unless someone has a rationale for choosing the 4.25 that would make me change my mind.

Someone would have to understand what you want the gun for.

Good point!

I'd like to add an M&P to gain basic proficiency with another firearm that is in widespread use. If I like it, it may find a bedside role. If not, it will be a range toy. It will never be a CCW pistol with either barrel length. If I decide I like the M&P system, I'd add a Compact or Shield for that.

Is this the M&P that was used for the Army MHS trials?

LMAO... one must remember that the driving force of manufacturers is to get your wallet open. The wife and I each have an old police trade-in M&P40c that we are perfectly happy with. No sale here.
