Default V2 New Lighter Trigger

From the V2 description on the S&W website:

Purpose: Home Protection, Personal Protection

With the new (Performance Center?) type trigger, that is lighter (than V1). Performance Center triggers have been spec'd at 4-5.5# in various S&W literature.

It will be interesting to see average pull weight for V2's. If it's <5#, I think that will be noteworthy for a manufactured self defense pistol.

I guess I was being a little facetious there. You know like plastic was the hot thing and........... Oh, never mind.

all i know is i can not wait to check one out in person. I love my regular full size MP as a range toy and home defense piece, only wished it had a similar trigger to my PC Shield. But a new 2.0 with a better trigger, and perhaps the longer barrel in the new color.....

This is the stuff that causes me to add to my little collection

That was hard listening. Sounded like The View. There's a short 4-minute speculation chat from 56-60 minutes on the V2.

Yeah and Glock claims to have 5.5 pound triggers in their guns too. They might say it's 5 LB or less, but put a gauge on it and see what you really get.

Not winning any Emmys anytime soon... The guys are a little wonky and full of fluff for the first 10 min, but they sometimes have good info.

I know 40S&W is out of favor right now but I can't wait to get a 2.0 in 40S&W. I need to find one on a shelf so I can check it out!

My local shop is flooded with 40's v1, and they are cheaper than 9mm or 45.

As soon as the FBI chose 9mm, a lot of shooters that don't like the recoil of .40 had the excuse they needed to switch.

You don't need an excuse to switch. It's a matter of preference.

I'm a little bummed that every new version they come out with is NOT available in the state in which they are made.
Shield 45, nope
M2.0s, nope
Not cool S&W, not cool.

The 2.0 should be ok, is it because it's not listed on the infamous AG list?

In some of the pictures I've seen, both in online reviews and market place; It looks like the 5" barrel version (In the FDE) has a loaded chamber indicator, "Shark Fin" similar to the CA compliant M&P's. Is this on all the 5''barrels?

Bought the 5" FDE from Sportsman Outdoor.....$459, no tax, free shipping, no cc fee and a $15 ffl fee. Hopefully it gets here next week. Fondled it at Academy and absolutely love the grip on this new model.

Need to find a good Kydex owb holster for it.

On S&Ws site you can click on state compliant models. They aren't there. I called and asked about the Shield 45 a bit ago and she said it's because of the trigger. At that time they had no intentions of making a MA specific one.

Yes, they suck too. BUT being that there are S&W models available in MA, and they are made in MA, and they come out with new models, I feel they should do a few runs of MA compliant versions. If they are doing a run of a few thousand, how hard would it be to do 5-10% of them with a MA compliant trigger?

They need to get approval from the totalitarian states before they can sell them there and we know how slowly the oppressive regimes are to adopt changes.

I was under the impression it's the other way around.
Make the gun. (with compliant "stuff")
Submit weapon for approval in ridiculous state.

They aren't even making one to submit (that I know of).

Default MA Compliant

S&W has to fill their distribution pipeline with their most popular, in demand models. This is a financial decision.

The next level will be the next top sellers--probably Pro models, perhaps a CORE, models with lasers, etc.

In the whole scheme of things, the amount of profit available from MA compliant sales is very small compared to other models that sell better. I bet it will happen, probably months from now.

I can pretty well guarantee S&W feels no obligation to produce low volume models for the restrictive political shenanigans that go on in the various states, including (especially) their home manufacturing state. Nothing personal. It's just business.

Agree. Love the grip. Don't have to buy a talon grip for this one.

Yes. I was debating between a Glock 19, Glock 17, and M2.0 and ultimately went with another M&P because I already have mags. Less up front cost, plus not having to spend $$$ on extra mags sold me. Maybe the Glock 19 next month, who knows?

Ah, I forgot about the MA requirement for 10lb trigger (one reason to purchase DA/SA in MA.) Maybe the won't offer a M2.0 because of the 10lb requirement.

Simple spring substitutions will get the trigger pull to 10#. They probably even have the springs already because they are likely to be the same as for the first model.

It's just a PITA to have the springs made, inventoried, installed in small planned runs, have the guns available but not selling, and the guns tracked and distributed only to a narrow market. That's extra cost.

Again, it may be mechanically easy to meet a few people's desire for a special, low volume gun, but it's not a good business decision.

I've handled a few in person and do liek 'em. The trigger has gone from terrible to acceptable and the new grip texture is grippy without being too aggressive. The new M-Large backstrap fits my large hands perfectly where the previous three did not suit.

I'd have to try one out at the range. My VP9 is pretty good. I have my doubts a S&W can shoot that accurately out of the box. While it may not mean much in practical terms, guns that don't shoot really well tend to not interest me.

One thing that I find annoying is how most of the manufacturers will update their line every few years...enough to eventually obsolete older versions. I keep my stuff forever, so I'm not a huge fan of the practice.

Overall with this one it's all positives. It appears the 5" guns have the loaded chamber indicator and the 4.25" guns use the witness hole.

The slide stop detent seems like an unnecessary feature, but I'm pretty neutral on it's implementation.

Jeez on another forum someone said Apex said accuracy was the same. I don't suppose Apex, who sells replacement barrels, has any interest in suggesting the gun will shoot better than most can hold. I might just chalk your post up to rumour has it status.

So they say it and the gun will listen? Because that's the only way it would work. Otherwise the buyer shoots it and sees that it's not the case. Typically how it works. Buy a gun, shoot it and THEN see if it needs anything

[QUOTE=awmp;139401207]I have seen them on Gunbroker now.

Are the 4.25" new 2.0 M&Ps the same size in barrel length as the old full size M&Ps?

Trying to decide if a new 2.0 is worth replacing my old M&P.[/QUOT

Do you really think the 4.25" barrel FS ver 2 barrel could be any longer than the 4.25" barreled FS original? Really?

Take Care

I have the 5" Pro in Blue with no safety. They have been making the Pro 5" in Blue right from the start without a manual safety.

I held the FDE today at my LGS. Very nice. Loved the roughness of the grips. It felt just a touch heavier than my SR1911 9mm but that might be a plus.

Definitely on my watch list.

I was able to check one out at my gun club today. Overall, it's still an M&P (which is a good thing). The trigger "feels" the same as the current pro model to me - which I feel is the same as my Wife's -9C. I'm not blown away by the trigger, but it'll certainly suffice - unless or until you install an Apex trigger, which would be an improvement. The grip texturing is EXTREMELY AGRESSIVE!!! Absolutely the most aggressive I've ever felt on a stock pistol. It'll certainly be a winner for those who like to add the sand paper texture Talon grips. However, I think it's probably too aggressive for most new shooters or the casual shooter. I certainly wouldn't want to wear one IWB against bare skin. If I were to buy one I'd take to it with some fine grit sand paper to smooth it out a bit. However - to each their own, as grip texturing is CERTAINLY a personal thing. Overall I think it'll be successful for S&W.

Looks like they turned the M&P into the FNS!

Appologies if this has been discussed but is the FDE model only in a 5" barrel with a safety? I'd be interested in buying one with a 4.25" barrel and no safety but it looks like my only option is black.

Is it worth the upgrade? I have a standard M&P .40 fullsize that I'd most likely sell if I bought one, but I have to be picky since I certainly don't "need" it

If the variety of original models is any indication, you can expect to get almost any configuration you want, that is, when S&W has had time to manufacture them and get them to distributors. They had to start somewhere, and these few models are it for the next few weeks. A year from now you will likely see these improvements on all the full size models you want, and probably the compact and Shield models too.

I have watched every review on the new 2.0 i like what i hear and see. As i have stated in the past S&W is really diggin in and making their spot in the competitive field, Hopefully they keep their prices appropriate. To the guy that said he wouldnt buy an M&P my question is why even reply?

Does it make sense to NOT buy a 9c and wait for the compact 2.0 version? I might not want to wait too long. Will the original M&Ps be discontinued?

This pistol doesn't have GRIP ZONE printed on it, so I would just get confused if I bought it.

Looks interesting. The new aggressive grip texture and the greater customization via the interchangeable backstraps will be big selling points.

The hand-wringing I've witnessed on other forums over the M&P's accuracy has me shaking my head, though. Are we seriously expecting match grade mechanical accuracy from a $450-$500 pistol?

I look at it this way: If that M&P can place all its shots in the area of a pie plate at typical engagement distances without sacrificing reliability, what exactly is gained by tightening it up? Are 1" MOA groups at 25 yards really that big of a deal? Is this supposed to be a defensive pistol or a dedicated bullseye gun?

Just something to think about.

I bought both and had the FDE safety removed in 10 minutes. S&W is sending me the plugs to fill the space where the safety was
